That "Shazzang" bit (a take-off on the 1960s Hanna-Barbera cartoon Shazzam ) TV Funhouse did last night on the show was the most disgusting, offensive thing I've seen in ages. I wonder how it got past the censors. I didn't get the point of it either. Was it a send-up of George Bush?
Equally unfunny was the bit about the movie reviewers and the stoner (Will Ferrel) who smoked a dog turd. When did SNL lower itself to the scatological?

I think that 90 minutes (or is it technically 85?) might be too much to ask from the cast and writers. The last half hour usually is rather dull, and they pack *a lot* of commercials in towards the end. It's really anti-climatic.
When the Smigel cartoon didn't air until, like, an hour and ten minutes into the show, I knew it was going to be pretty bad.
How does it compare to Mad TV in the Neilsen ratings? Anyone know?

I actually found last night's episode to be pretty funny-- at least the first half hour or so. But in all fairness I had been out partying, so it might have had something to do with the chemicals dancing in my brain by that point...
I laughed at the Jeopardy sketch, and the one taking place at a work convention (though the skit ran way too long).
Then Weekend Update came on... and the show was dead to me. I just don't find it funny at all, and TV Funhouse always makes me cringe and squirm.
But I thought Will Farrell did a nice job-- he reminded me of the days where SNLers didn't break out in giggles mid-skit or go all smug when they pull off a funny.

Word. That was sick. If this show was a horse, someone would have shot it by now. It isn't even funny anymore. I agree with a poster above, the best cast was the original one.

That made me spit my adult beverage from my nose. Last night only proved that SNL needs Will Ferrell like nobody's business.

Okay, now I got to see that. I'm a fairly big fan of Smigel's grossout humor, but whenever he does something that outrageous it must be seen. There's a reason the TV Funhouse show only lasted eight episodes, and I think he's proud he got it canned after that. And come on, John Ritter threatening to blow the head off a puppet to 'no longer live in fear' and George Wendt going on about vaginas is possibly one of the worst ways you can go off the air.

Apparently, they're hardly making any changes to the cast for the new season. I'm surprised because the show seems to be universally hated right now. I've seen the last season compared to the loathsome Jeanine Garofalo/ Christ Eliot and Anthony Michael Hall/ Robert Downey Jr. seasons.

The Season Premiere was disappointing.
I think Will Forte does a HORRIBLE Bush impersonation. It's not really all that much like Bush, and I hate how Will gets all whiney and worried sounding with it. Frank Caliendo's Bush impression is a lot closer to how Bush really talks, and I think it's really funny how Frank parodies Bush as being all stupidly confident no matter what he says, which I think it way funnier that the way Will does it.
Did Tina Fey quit? I walked in after Weekend Update began to see Horatio Sanz sitting there at the desk. Umm, oh Hell no. I can't stand that guy. He laughs uncontrollably at least once in nearly every episode, and not that this has anything to do with his work on the show, get him a gastric bypass already. Bless his poor cholesterol caked heart.

Tina Fey didn't quit. She's on maternity leave. She should be back in a few months.

I had last night's SNL on in the backround... and found it unsettling. I'm guess I'm just not ready to laugh about Hurricaine Katrina, and 'Debbie Downer' is never funny. That 70s Variety show thing was only funny the first time-- you can't do the same damn skit and expect it to fly. Kayne West was ok, and it was cool that they had Mike Meyers and him do a skit... that's about it. Ashlee Simpson gets to blow again next week.
