I've been catching up on on youtube clips and of course, feel woefully sentimental for this show now that it's gone. I'm pleased to see K. Martin at the reunion...in an interview she said she was pleased with the way they wrote her off and the cast was respectful of her last eps.
I was surprised to hear 'Jerry' took around a 3-season hiatus; it sounds like Benrubi had a minor breakdown or something, and then producers gave him his job back when he was ready. How often does that happen?
Lastly, I've come full circle to crushing on older Eriq La Salle. His smile (you see it so seldomly on Benton but often in bloopers) is killer.

I will always remember Eriq LaSalle as Darryl in the movie Coming to America. The Soul Glo music in the background is priceless. And him spraying that jheri curl juice in his hair, then gazing at himself in the mirror like he's The Shit will stay in my mind forever.

I would have liked a bit of focus on the long-time nurses - Halle, Lydia, Chunie (sp?), and a few others. Like a real hospital, they're the heart and soul of the place, not to mention the ones who really keep it going.

{{Resurrecting a 12-year-old thread--arise!!!}}
I've been doing a re-watch (thanks Hulu) and the most amusing thing is how dated the early seasons are. From Doug telling Mark to "leave a message on my answering machine" to Mark asking the desk clerk (not Jerry, not Randy, some other temp dude) if he "knew how to search the Web" to Carol faxing Doug her "I'm pregnant" letter, it's quite funny.
And yet...it's still really good TV. Even if my older self doesn't find Doug half as charming as he thinks he is. But, man, the episode (and the one after) when Carter and Lucy got stabbed? Pretty great.

I still remember vividly Dr. Weaver's reaction when she found them, and no matter what else he does David Krumholtz will always be the guy who stabbed Lucy and Carter to me.

Those episodes have stayed with me too, I was channel hopping a few months back and the soundtrack to the stabbing episode stopped me in my tracks I knew exactly what was coming up, that moment Carter sees Lucy on the floor is clear as day in my mind right now. Kelly Martin was incredible as Lucy during those episodes.
I have the dvds from series 1 to 6 this might prompt a rewatch over Xmas!
Also love seeing OG ER actors pop up unexpectedly in things Eric LaSalle longside Hugh Jackman in Logan has me shouting Benton! at the telly. Which now reminds me of Carters addiction episodes with Benton getting him to rehab so well done. And yeah I was all about Doug. Yep, a rewatch of some will happen!

That episode was so unbelievably gut-wrenching. Kellie Martin and Noah Wylie were so amazing and it broke my heart when Lucy died. Watching even the most asshole of doctors on the show, like Romano, completely lose their shit when they can't save her says a lot. That episode was the pivotal moment in Carter's life throughout the entire series with painkiller addiction, liver/kidney problems for the rest of his life, and just overall mental anguish. I think I remember that Kellie wanted to be written out of the series because her sister got really sick with Lyme disease and ended up dying at a very young age. When Mark died, that was a really difficult series of episodes, too. Even though they really screwed up his daughter, Rachel's storyline -- bringing her back at the end was really full circle and it was good to see it go that way. They jumped the shark many times but I think the whole bits with Romano and helicopters is what did it for me. LOL

That's what did it for me too, I was basically just hate-watching it after that. I still remember where I was for the second helicopter: sitting cross-legged on the bed in my friend's dorm room during my senior year in college. We were both so stunned, we couldn't speak. They just had so many ridiculous things happening in the last few seasons, like the episode where some dude stole a tank and was wreaking havoc all over Chicago. It was just so stupid.

Watching even the most asshole of doctors on the show, like Romano, completely lose their shit when they can't save her says a lot. When he knocks over the instrument cart and then is like "no, no, c'mon, we're gonna keep trying" and Elizabeth has to be the one to say "Robert, she's gone." Ugh. And Kerri going outside to throw up and not being able to work on David Krumholz when they brought him in--that entire episode was just so fantastic. Save for an episode here and there the last five years got to be a bit of a slog (too many characters I just didn't care about), but when it was good, it was very, very good.
