I actually really liked it. I didn't interpret the ending as his death, I interpreted it as a representation of the constant fear he and his family will always live with. The one thing the show has never been able to convey the paranoia Tony and his family must live with, because we as viewers could always feel fairly certain that none of those 4 characters would die. Even when Junior shot Tony, I knew he wouldn't die...there was a whole season left. For me, that last 10 minutes showed us their fear that stems from their knowledge that any second could be their last and that any passing stranger could be out to get them. David Chase was finally able to convey what he was never able to before. ETA: Even though I liked it, I don't think those of you who disliked the ending are ignorant illiterate inbreds who don't have the slightest appreciation of art.

I really like that too, blue wine. My dad is outraged by the ending but the more I think about it, I love it.

Don't try to navigate the crazy at TWOP about this. Basically if you disliked the ending you are branded an ignorant illiterate inbred who doesn't have the slightest appreciation of art. There's plenty of hate over at TWOP last time I checked. People are firmly in the love it or hate it camps. I'm gonna sleep on it.

From Twop
Supoosedly, the Female FBI agent was one of the strippers shown in the TV monitor.

What annoys me is that is all it is- a theory. It's a tv series finale so viewers expect a little bit of closure for the time they've invested into a series without having to wait and see if they cash in with a movie in six months time. It just feels like a huge rip off and it's sort of like a f-you to the audience. Heck, have you tried being an XF fan? The creators of that show ripped all the fans a new one with that ending. I am undecided about this finale.

Just came to check and make sure my cable didn't cut off the ending. I don't know, I was expecting more to happen. My heart was pounding so hard during that scene and I couldn't believe when it just went to black. However, If the director wanted to give us a sense of Tony's paranoia, then he totally accomplished that! I was waiting for any one of the people in the diner to bust a cap in Tony. I don't know, it was a crappy way to end the show.

Yeah, I don't care that life isn't all neatly-tied up loose ends. This is TV, and I wanted a TV ending.

My feeling was that Meadow was going to slide into the booth right as the killer came out of the bathroom. He wouldn't be expecting her (just Tony, alone) and she'd get it but the rest of the fam would have time to take cover. Still Godfather, but more Godfather 3 than than GF1. The music was perfect for the set-up, but the ending was not enough for many years of loyalty. F*ck that.

I saw it the same as blue wine. We basically got a look at what it's like to be Tony Soprano for three minutes, and half of us are having heart attacks, me included. And even if he manages to survive all the bullshit, he'll just end up crazy and alone with his kids trying to get his money, like Junior.
