Heh, Meryl is the most nonplussed winner ever. Everybody knew this win was for Maks... the gold medalist was just sorta, "meh"! I wonder what she weighs? She got lifted and held in the air, and she wasn't even on anyone's shoulders!
I'm glad he finally got one (but not as glad as Val and Tony). But what's with all the leaving the show talk? Len came right out and said it, and Meryl said she was happy to be Maks' last freestyle. Go have some summer cocktails and come back in the fall (but you can leave Carrie Ann at the pool).

I thought I heard a rumor somewhere that Maks only agreed to come back for one season and only if he got someone he had a real chance of winning with.
I'm so glad he won, I would've been so pissed if Derek won for the sixth time. I thought it was so cute how Tony and Val ran right out there to congratulate Maks.

Not only did Maks win, but he said - and I believe him - that creatively what he did with Meryl was some of the best stuff he did in his career. (That freestyle! OMG!) I don't think he's going to want to go back to futilely trying to teach the jive to some 60-year-old, overweight, uncoordinated sitcom star or whoever he'd get next. Better to go out on a high. And when would he ever get such an emotionally even-keeled partner to keep him calm? (Honestly, I think that part of Meryl's job involved more effort than the dancing.)
There has been speculation that Len is going to retire and Maks will replace him as a permanent judge.

New cast/pairings announced:• Randy Couture, MMA pro, 51 / Karina Smirnoff • Michael Waltrip, NASCAR driver, 51 / Emma Slater (the new Edyta: calm, patient, perennially saddled with men of a certain age) • Janel Parrish, actress, 25 / Val Chmerkovskiy (she's on Pretty Little Liars) • Sadie Robertson, model/reality star, 17 / Mark Ballas (Markie had better hope Duck Dynasty girl is a better dancer than Bristol) • Antonio Sabato Jr., model/actor, 42 / Cheryl Burke ( Jagger!) • Alfonso Ribeiro, actor, 42 / Witney Carson (Carlton, ringer extraordinaire) • Tommy Chong, comedian/musician, 76 / Peta Murgatroyd (guess there won't be a showmance this year!) • Jonathan Bennett, actor, 33 / Allison Holker (Aaron Samuels, Mean Girls dreamboat) • Lea Thompson, actress, 53 / Artem Chigvintsev • Tavis Smiley, political commentator, 49 / Sharna Burgess • Lolo Jones, Olympic track star, 32 / Keo Motsepe ( new pro) • Bethany Mota, YouTube star, 18 / Derek Hough (are Youtube stars less or more of a barrel scrape than Heather Mills and Elisabetta?) • Betsey Johnson, fashion designer, 72 / Tony Dovolani (Of course) Also, Julianne is the fourth judge! Though with the show down to one night per week, she'll have plenty of time to take meetings for TV/movie roles, hehe.

I'm beginning to think the producers have it out for Tony, he always gets people he has no chance with. Melissa Rycroft was total serendipity.
So from what I can tell, this Bethany Mota person just shops and then films what she bought. And she's famous...why?

I'm not sure either, but I keep seeing her face in the YouTube ads that are plastered all over the Union Square subway station in Manhattan. That picture you linked, GoldenFleece, is definitely worthy of a Throwback Thursday!

• Alfonso Ribeiro, actor, 42 / Witney Carson (Carlton, ringer extraordinaire) Thanks for listing these. I didn't really watch last season except some highlights on Youtube, so I really don't know much about Carson except she was paired with Cody Simpson who I couldn't care less about last season. I really hope that Carlton wins even if Ribeiro is a ringer just because I watch old clips from The Fresh Prince over and over again to make me laugh especially the one where Carlton is a "stripper". I have no idea who this is either. I sort of hope that means Derek will be at a major disadvantage and not even come close to sniffing the top 3, but who am I kidding. I might as well pencil him in for the win now. I can just see the narrative now with his sister being one of the judges. She'll continually rank him lower than the other judges at first, but then her brother will start to wow everyone again and get the first perfect score of the season and of course a place in the top 3 and perhaps even another win. Poor Tony. There might be one positive though, the last time I saw Johnson on television, she was on America's Next Top Model, although it may have been ten years now, and she was still in great shape doing cartwheels and what not. So maybe they'll surprise everyone.

Wow, is this the worst cast ever or what? I know after all these years the most famous show-offy people have already done the show, but you could at least count on one big name and a well know football player or something. The big star ringer is Carlton? Not a clue who most of these people are. And they're loading it up with new pros too, so it'll really be hard to care.

If Alfonso Ribeiro were to make it that far, I'd like to see his freestyle. I wonder whether he can take inspiration from this. Poor Tony. There might be one positive though, the last time I saw Johnson on television, she was on America's Next Top Model, although it may have been ten years now, and she was still in great shape doing cartwheels and what not. So maybe they'll surprise everyone. Maybe it's time for Tony to quit move on to other things. I wonder whether Betsey will design her own costumes! I know after all these years the most famous show-offy people have already done the show, but you could at least count on one big name and a well know football player or something. The big star ringer is Carlton? /quote] I doubt Will Smith will ever want to do it, but maybe someone can convince his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith to give it a whirl. Re: ex-football players - I'd like to see Michael Strahan come on the show. Maybe someone can convince Jennette McCurdy to do it now that her show is over. That should be better than recruiting a YouTube star.

I read somewhere that based on rehearsals so far, some people you'd expect to be really good are not, and some people you'd expect to be bad are actually really good. Betsey Johnson is supposed to be one of the surprises - she's in great shape and is doing flying splits and stuff. Poor Tony may have actually gotten a decent partner. And Val is already showmancing it up with his partner.
