Surely I am not the only sci-fi geek that loves this show.

I don't really remember the original so I didn't have any ideas about the characters beforehand. I understand there was some objection to Starbuck being female, but I love her character so I don't have any qualms.

I wish Season 2 would pick up the pace a bit. The miniseries and Season 1 were so action-packed and exciting that I am having a hard time with the slower pace they've got going right now.

Love it. I also love the fact that Starbuck is female. I can't believe people objected to it. The female roles in the original were in line for the time, which makes them look incredibly sexist now. They had to update them.

The actress playing Starbuck is incredibly sexy. I love her voice.

A question my son had about how our galaxy got its name led me to the explanation that follows. I got it off the internet so it must be true.

A myth by the ancient Greeks said this white streak was a ‘river of milk’. The ancient Romans called it the Via Galactica, or ‘road made of milk’. This is how our galaxy became known as the Milky Way.

So Battlestar Galactica is Battlestar Made of Milk? I haven't seen the new series but judging from the way Lorne Greene packed on the post-Bonanza pounds in the original series, I'm guessing they didn't have skim.

I've seen the original, and besides Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene, it sucked pretty bad. I think the only reason the show kept going at all back then was because of George Lucas's inane suit that basically said BattleStar ripped off Star Wars. There was even a really, really bad spin off called Galactica 1980 where Cylons looked human and they had motorcycles that could fly. Except for certain episodes (the Episodes with John Colicos were pretty good), most of it was kind of painful to watch looking back, but I was hooked.

The only peeve I have with the current show is that their weapons are basically our weapons. No blasters or cliched 'ray guns'

The original was bad, but amusing in its badness. It had some nifty touches though, like the Cylons' mechanical voices and yo-yo shaped spacecraft, the cool uniforms of the Viper pilots, and the rockin' 70s hairdoes, which were super-shiny and super-feathered. There was one chick who always wore her hair in multitude of braids before Bo Derek popularized it in the movie 10. I haven't seen the newer version, but it seems an impossible act to make something so silly and campy into something serious.

I will try again to see if anyone else is watching the current series.

I just got the miniseries and season one on DVD and I am re-watching all of it. Frankly, it's been awhile since a series has really gripped me like this one has. I moved out of the US in September so I haven't seen the last few episodes of the summer, but things seemed to be heating up.

My one complaint is that some things are a little obtuse, specifically the Cylon's "plan." Is it to be human and create clones or to breed with humans? And as much I love Katee Sackhoff that plays Starbuck I don't think she is just the greatest actress or her direction is strange. I found it very odd that she got so attached to that sports player guy on Caprica when she is clearly in love with Lee Adama (though I hope they don't really get together--would take all the fun out of it).

Overall, I have been pretty impressed with the way the political side has been handled. It seems very real and very much in tune with modern politics. It makes the series very relatable.

The acting's pretty good, too -- the scene last season in which Boomer was almost raped by the interrogator from the Pegasus was well nigh unbearable. I'd always liked Grace Park, but my respect for her went waaaaay up. She was just amazing.

We just watched the mini-series and Season 1 on DVD and loved it! As Georgianna says, the politics are really well done, the humor with Baltar and Cylon 6 is great, and (shallowly) Jamie Bamber's arms are impressive.

I think he's so cute as Apollo, but when I hear his real British accent it sort of goes away.

The main guy running the show is Ron Moore, former writer/producer for one of my favorite shows: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I'm loving BSG like you would not believe and it's a thrill watching Moore get more recognition for his talents.

And yeah, I love Starbuck. She and Adama are my two favorite characters. Though I've got a soft spot for Laura Roslin. Gotta love a soft-spoken schoolteacher turned take-charge leader.
