I haven't seen the show yet, but the prospect of fronting the "band" behind the show--a pastiche of aging rockers--doesn't have anywhere near the appeal of fronting INXS, a world band with a fantastic back catalogue. Anyone else find this aspect of the new show a deal-killer? Plus, am I wrong or is it just a one-year contract to front the band? It might have been the same with INXS but one year? Seriously, a year from now they could be like "And thanks but we decided to go with David Lee Roth so our reality show winner is gone now."

Mr ish is a smart man! As for the contestants---not great, but IIRC last season, many of them sucked the first night too. Cept Marty and Jordis. I am also wondering if the boys from Supernova are looking for a female, because to me the boys were not on the top rung of what they could have found out there. The girls were much more talented. But I just don't see it. These guys are rockers. In general, they need a male frontman to be seen as the bad boys they so want to be seen as. Yet, is that possible given they are doing a search for this singer on CBS?

ITA. INXS was infamous for having lost it's lead singer to either a strange suicide or a horrible accident, I know I was stunned when I heard that MH was dead. And I worried for INXS almost as much as I worried for Tiger Lily, because they had a huge backlog of known songs that somebody was going to have to sing. And each week the songs were showcased, and people who might not have known who sang those songs could say to themselves "Hey, I remember that song, I always liked it. I guess I'll have to go see JD with INXS when they come to my town".
So that was really a void that had to be filled. But this season is more like a few marginal rock folk decided they wanted to take advantage of the reality media circus to put together a group that will hopefully have a built-in ticket-buying audience at the end of this show's run. But without the backlog of available music, I don't know why they think people will care. (Plus, none of those guys are as hot as Gary Gary Beers.) Honestly, I had more hope for the guys on VH1's SuperGroup.
I would have rather seen RockStar:Queen.

I would have rather seen RockStar:Queen. Now that would have been an amazing show! But they've got Paul Rodgers touring with them so it seems they've filled the position (poorly, IMHO...I would have preferred George Michael but I guess he was too busy ruining his beautiful life). ETA: Is that the sound of Dwan going apoplectic? Mr. Coldplay from last night is singing Duran Duran's "Planet Earth" and these aging "rockstars" have a total WTF?? look on their faces. Priceless.

I thought Mr. Planet Earth was the best of the bottom three last night—and I thought the arrangement of the song kicked ass. I guess the members of "Supernova" (the dumbest band name ever, IMO) couldn't deal with the fact the guy sang a Duran Duran song because it didn't have enough "cred" for them. Those other two guys were teh suck.
As for that Lithium chick–is it possible she can only growl out that song with a hoodie covering her head? I can't believe she had to use that fashion trick again. And I'm sorry, but I want to yank that towel hook out of her face.

The Mr. and I are starting a drinking game. Drink! Everytime someone says "Rock on", Drink! Everytime someone says "Right on" and Drink! Everytime the word "Brother" is used. God, I am truly too embarrassed to watch at times "cause of all the "trying too hard". It's all so contrived (I suppose that is part of a reality show). But all of the "rockers" are just wannabe rip-offs of someone else. That is SO not "Rock and Roll". Sorry for all the "quotes", love Britney.

I also thought that the Planet Earth guy was the best of the bottom three vocally and that the Roxanne guy STILL sucked after his Doors. He just doesn't have much range. And he looks too much like that Josh Groban (sp?) guy to make me believe that he can rock. And the Lithium chick has that weird piercing on her chin that looks like some sort of metal goatee. I feel like my mother when I'm saying this but couldn't she TRY to be a little prettier. I guess that's not very rockstar though. The rockstars this year seem like they're trying way too hard this year. Like Lithium girl. Where does one even buy a hoodie like that? Rock Stars R Us? and that Lukas guy is also so gross. I just imagine him meticulously grooming that shaved area in his eyebrow and plucking out stray hairs and getting his eye make-up just right and I can't help but think how silly it is.

You need to add "Baby" to your list of drinking cues. I would say add the word "rockers" as well, but Brooke Burke would put you in a coma by the first commercial break. I hate when she refers to them as "rockers." It just sounds so stupid.

The guy is a clown. I can't imagine actual rock stars like Roger Daltrey or Robert Plant sitting around preening in a make up mirror for hours trying to perfect the right amount of fuschia eye powder to place under their eyes in the hopes their audiences would perceive them to be hip and edgy. Authenticity isn't purchased in a pod at the M.A.C. counter, people.

I totally agree but it's not a "deal killer" for me. The show is still entertaining, even though it's one step above America's Got Talent. I don't have anywhere near the feelings for the Supernova band members that I did for INXS. It's strictly entertainment.
Duran Duran guy was so stupid. Don't get me wrong, I love Duran Duran but not for those guys. So he took a bullet for Chris, unfortunately for us.
I thought Rebel Yell guy could not be any more obnoxious. I don't see how his behavior was praiseworthy in any way. He's just a little ass.
Oh yes. Or Rockstar: Van Halen.
