There's a thread fo INXS, so does this deserve its own?
I don't know these people's first names, so I'll go by song:
Storm Large (okay, I remember that awful name) annoyed me muchly. Also, it's "he's got such a SUPPLE wrist," not subtle.
I guess my favorite was Rebel Yell.
I liked Blondie with the guitar, even though she was a little bland. I also liked the Grace Sick wannabe, even though she was little too close to the original in her reading of "Somebody to Love."

Yes, definitely deserves a thread...
We tuned in here and there and don't really know what to think of these singers yet. The one who did Knockin' on Heaven's Door had a nice voice as did the girl who did Somebody to Love (although she felt a little fake, like she was really forcing it). I did not like Rebel Yell at all, he gave me the creeps. The girl who had the weird voice and stood completely still is either going to be brilliant or a complete disaster. Too soon to tell.
I'll have to watch again next week to have a better opinion but no-one really blew me away, at least among the few I saw.

Which is the girl that sang the Nirvana song at the end? I hope that wasn't the girl from Houston, because I don't want to root for her (as you have to from your hometown, no choice in the matter).

Its just screening here in NZ now, Im liking Mr Rebel Yell - Lukas something?
The girl who did Lithium could either be this series' Jordis, or completely balls things up and be gone in 2 weeks. Shes intense.
Theres some real crap in this bunch though, I have to say. Most of the guys are poop.

Was the "Rebel Yell" guy the one with the receding hairline who ripped off Brandon Flowers' look and stage mannerisms?
The girl who sang "Lithium"—does she know there's a hangar stuck in her lower chin? Oww on that hardware look.

I was surprised to see Patrice Pike there. I used to live in Austin and her name was pretty well known around the music circles. A friend of mine was a music reporter and was constantly doing stories on her.
I know that I will totally get into this show but now it just seems too early. There are too many people for me to keep track of--I like it better after a few people get kicked off.

That's true. Last season I immediately fell in love with Marty and Mig. This time the guys are pretty dull. The guy who sang the Black Crowes song looked interesting as well as the Rebel Yell guy. The one who sang Roxanne was horrifyingly bad. No one really stood out as good, unfortunately.
The girls were interesting though. Dalia was pretty intense. She sounds like the singer in The Divinyls. I also like Patrice and Storm. I was surprised by the 22 year old. She's got a great voice. I didn't like the girl who sang the Evanescence song. Too stage crafty.
But yay for a good summer show!

I haven't seen the show yet, but the prospect of fronting the "band" behind the show--a pastiche of aging rockers--doesn't have anywhere near the appeal of fronting INXS, a world band with a fantastic back catalogue.
Anyone else find this aspect of the new show a deal-killer?

Yeah, definitely a deal-killer. I cared about INXS and was emotionally invested in their hunt for a singer, even as I silently cursed them for going the reality TV route. This time around, I could care less who wins because it's not a band I'd ever be interested in, and I find them a bit pathetic.
I do enjoy singing competitions when there's real talent represented and if these guys step up, then I'll watch otherwise I've got other things to do with my time.

I thought Dilana was as pretensiously phoney as Nirvana themselves. Her look was cliche'd and I was laughing my *ss off about the goth/emo/rocker/suicide look she was doing juxtaposed with the glittery eyeshadow. Nasty voice, stupid when she just stood there all intense...like the range for 'yea ah ah ah ahhhhh' is sooooooooo difficult. Then the convulsion dance towards the end..ugh. horrible horrible horrible. As I was once told (by someone I just said was pretensious and phoney...lol) she's a "conformist for not comforming'....cookie cutter version of "i'm so different and edgy'. She ties too hard. Yea, she really bugged me.
The only one I really liked was the girl who did the Melissa Etheridge song. Other than that there was a whole lotta suckage goin on. Hopefully Mr. Rebel Yell will get some notoriety and fame and some plugs. Last night show had way too much copycat wannabe's and very very little originality. The dude who butchered Roxanne, if he could sing he wouldn't have gotten scolded for rearranging the song. The Scott Weiland wannabe...NOT. The Janis Joplin wannabe...NOT...and too cliche'd. etcetcetc...and etc Unfortunately Mr.Ish is a Newsted fan and is going to force me to have this one every week. ugh. and don't get me started on Dave Navarro. And one more thing...I was really shocked how Jason, Tommy, Gilby and Dave gushed over 90% of these people.
