Just want to say that this is the # 1 item on my "DVDs to buy" list. Last time I went to my usual store, they were all out. Guess I'm not the only one! P.S. I've never actually seen any of the episodes, though - which is why I can't wait! I got the Firefly DVDs as soon as they came out and rewatched every episode (And watched some for the first time, FOX FUCKING T.V.-show cancelling pigs!). I love the commentary. Joss can write so well but MAN OH MAN can he cast. Yowza! There were two preshowings of Serenity in D.C. and I went to both of them (SHUT UP!). Anyhow, the woman who plays Inara (Morena Baccarin) was there in a surprise guest appearance and there was one massive geek orgasm when she walked in. She's GORGEOUS in person and has the most beautiful caramel-colored skin and beautiful eyes. Although I don't think that ANY of the guys were looking at her eyes.

I bought these a few months ago and haven't gotten in the mood to check the series out yet. Now I love Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres and I think Joss Whedon hung the moon. My problem is I absolutely hate sci-fi unless it is Star Wars. Will I still be able to get into this?

It's not really scifi, K.Barrett, or at least not in the Star Trek sense, so I don't think you'll have a problem. It's the story of people on the edge of civilisation making ends meet and getting into trouble - just their trouble happens on different planets and occasionally in space. There aren't any aliens or anything supernatural, and if you love all those people (and Star Wars, for that matter), you'll probably be crazy about it.

I hate sci fi myself, and Westerns, and I loved Serenity. It's all about the characters and motivations and the action for me.
And Jayne and his pom pom hat.

Another not-sf-fan chiming in. I loved it. It was SF the way Star Wars is SF: classic storytelling in characters who happen to ride in a space ship. It is one of the smartest things ever written. Sigh. RIP.

Yeah, it took me a few episodes before the show grew on me. I went to a special screening of "Serenity" last night (just to make y'all jealous, the Mission Theater in NW Portland will be showing Firefly from the begining on the big screen soon) and my God that man is hot! Everytime he was on screen I just kept thinking "you could bounce a quarter off of that ass..." Oh, and the movie is awesome on the big screen.

I thought it was a great movie, one of the best SciFi movies out there for a while. Plus the Nathan hotness and the Joss hilarity. The mechanic, Kayley (Jewel Staite), is now the doctor on Stargate: Atlantis. So she's much cleaner now.
