I know nothing about judging skating, but I thought Kurt and Deborah were boring. She's not a very good skater and seems afraid to try anything difficult. Poor Kurt really had to heft her up in the lift. I liked Kristy and Lloyd's performance, and I'm glad they'll be around for another week. I did think it was hilarious that they didn't realize they weren't booted off.

Yeah, it's obvious at this point that this isn't a legitimate competition. Even the order in which the teams skate seems all too convenient. Jillian is far and away the best celebrity on the ice and she and John should win just because their content is so much greater than everyone else's, but the show's people probably don't want all the viewers to decide this just yet so last night they had to low ball John and Jillian to make it look like it's still anyone's competition.
I'm worried that Lloyd is going to push Kristy to try something too hard. She just looks really tentative out there, and anyone who's ever done gymnastics or skating or anything knows that you have to be committed to any big trick you go for. Bailing out is the easiest way to get yourself hurt. I don't think Kristy has the guts to go for some of the skills Lloyd seems to be pressuring her to do.

I don't think they should eliminate anybody from this show. I think it would have been better to see how the skaters progressed. They could have been marked every week and then the marks all tallied at the end of say 6 weeks. Some skaters(Jillian)had an(Jillian)unfair headstart(Jillian)advantage over(Jillian)the other(Jillian)skaters. As did the pairs skaters. Sad to see you go Kurt.

I'm worried that Lloyd is going to push Kristy to try something too hard. I'm worried about that, too. Girl is a trooper, though, for continuing on with the program after the chin whack on the ice. Bruce is similarly ambitious to try difficult moves, but props to Randy for keeping Tai's safety in mind. I think the competition should be graded based on relative improvement. I'm happy Bruce and Tai received those high marks, because I can really see Bruce's improvement. He's starting to look more loose out there and his skating has improved. Plus, Tai is so awesome--I want to keep her on the show as long as possible, just to watch her skate. Despite my love for Kurt, I wish he and Deborah were booted last week instead of Todd/Jenni. At least Todd and Jenni looked like they were having fun and Todd wasn't afraid to try new moves. I always imagine what her last Olympic skate will be like too...and know I'll be bawling my head off like a loser. On my flight back from NYC the other night they aired an A&E Biography of Michelle Kwan. I was almost in tears watching that. I'm seriously thinking of taking the day of the ladies' free skate off from work; I just don't think I'm going to be able to focus on work/resist the temptation to check the news online. I = DORK. Listening to the music now. I can really envision Michelle doing some amazing footwork during the faster section in the middle. Just go out there and have some ass-kicking fun, Michelle! carrier76--Thanks for the recap of Nationals! It sounds like it was so much fun. I would have loved to see Stephanie Rosenthal's performance live. Nationals were in LA a few years ago and I really wanted to go to the ladies' free skate, but didn't have the money for a ticket. Now I'm kind of pissed at myself for not just charging the danged thing.

proper stranger I had upped my credit limit on my Visa to get opening day tickets/a ticket package to the new Busch Stadium here (StL Cardinals, baby!) but they were sold out by the time I got through. Instead, I promptly ordered my skating tickets. I got the best seats I could, which were....$85. a. ticket. And then when there was no Michelle I was seriously bummed, but I follow skating enough to know who at least half of them were. It was really fun! I was downtown again the other day and they still have the little skaters hanging on the lightposts around Savvis and Union Station, and I almost went downtown the next day to take pictures. Hee!
I got my photos back too...they're...not so great. But I know what they all are.

Last night I had Chinese food and the message in my fortune cookie was this:
Seeing as I live vicariously through Michelle, I can only interpret this as being a message from the Chinese Food Gods meant for her in Turin.
Nothing can shatter my Kwanfidence in Kwan.

You can stop with the Olympic ice skating talk because I just opened an Olympic thread in the current events area. And, no, you can't have your own ice skating thread. ;D

Oh, well...on the last show Dave Coulier and Nancy Kerrigan were eliminated. In my opinion, although Bruce Jenner and Tai Babilonia skate well together, their presentation wasn't that much more exciting than Dave and Nancy's. I think Tai and Bruce are the sympathy couple because you don't see Tai doing double and triple axle jumps. Yes, she is beautiful and skates great on ice, but I've noticed that besides the "death spiral" move, she has not done a lot of risky moves as compared to Jillian, Kristy, and (believe it or not) Todd Bridges. Also, I think that because Nancy, Dave, Tai, and Bruce share the same choreographer (Randy Gardner, who was Tai's skating partner), Tai and Bruce would have the better choreographed program...in a nutshell...favoritism and partiality.

Inside Edition is reporting that Lloyd Eisler has left his wife for skating partner Kirsty Swanson. They interviewed his wife and his and Kirsty's publicist confirmed the split.
