Oh, dear Lord...Tom Hammond?!?! Someone hand me an ice pick now so I can puncture my eardrums. That man is a complete and TOTAL idiot. A few years ago, he was the color guy for a basketball tournament and didn't know anything there. Why on earth NBC gave him figure skating to do again, especially after the shoddy job he did during SLC, defies understanding.
Hate Sandra Bezic, too. Not crazy about Scott Hamilton doing commentary either. However, I love Uncle Dick. He makes no sense anymore, but I love him anyway.
On an off topic, send Michelle Kwan to Torino!! She's earned her spot, and I'm sorry, but other than Sasha Cohen, there's no other lady from the US that has the ability to medal. As talented as Corwin, Czisny, Meissner, Liang, et al are, there's no way they'll medal at the Olympics. Not with Slutskaya and the strength of the Japanese ladies. IMO, as long as Michelle's got the ability and the competitive drive, she should compete as long as she wants to. Only she's got the right to say when enough is enough.

Hahaha. Every time Dick calls someone "young lady/young man", take a drink. Can you imagine if Uncle Dick was commentating on Skating with Celebrities? He'd be so mean--it would be hysterical.
*sniffle* Well-said.

Swan, next week on Bravo's Project Runway, the contestants are going to design a skating outfit for Sasha Cohen. I expect snarky comments in the Project Runway thread if you are able to watch it.

I'm torn on the Kwan issue. OTOH, I know that she got bumped for Kerrigan in '94. OTOH, I think athletes should have to qualify for their spots on the Olympic team. Kwan earned her spot in '94, but she was bumped for Kerrigan, which I think was unfair. But now she wants to do the same thing to another girl. Yes, injuries suck, especially if you lose your chance at gold, but that's life. More specifically: an athlete's life. Injuries happen and you can't compete and you may lose your chance at that gold medal/Super Bowl/World Series/whatever. But I believe it's unfair to play a never-ending game of "makeup," the world doesn't revolve around any one single athlete.
It's like giving a best actor Oscar to Robert De Niro this year just because he was good in the past, even though he didn't release a film this year. It's not like Kwan never got the chance to get the gold, either: everyone thought she would win at Salt Lake but she choked. She was outskated by Hughes fair and square.

Well, after watching the ladies short programs tonight on ESPN, Michelle has nothing to worry about. Good Lord, what a mess. Saturday's long programs had better be skated squeaky clean by at least four of the ladies, and I'm talking CLEAN.

You know, I knew they were going to give Michelle an Olympic spot right from the moment she withdrew from Nationals. And it was especially clear that she'd get a berth after the way Emily Hughes skated at Nationals, but still, there was something about hearing it on TV that Michelle is officially going to the Olympics that nearly made me cry.
From the bottom of my heart I hope she wins the gold medal.

I was hoping the team would be Kwan-Cohen-Czisny, but Alissa really shot herself in the foot.
There's an evil piece of me that's especially happy that Michelle is knocking a Hughes out of the Olympics.
