There's a gene in the DNA of the Irish that makes them have a tendency to alcoholism? Do tell. Not sure if you are being facetious, but yes, a lot of Irish are genetically pre-disposed to alcoholism. No, you can't go in and get a blood test and walk away with a definitive "yes" you have the alcoholic gene or "no" you don't have the alcoholic gene, but it definitely runs in Irish families. Native Americans also have a very high rate of alcoholism.

I'd say the genetic tendency towards alcoholism is Celtic, which includes the Irish people. Welsh-american here, who didn't start drinking because the rest of my family are all unable to stop once they get started.

Interesting, kind of a bummer, but interesting.
Hopefully he has the ability to keep himself healthy and sober now that it's not just about himself any more.

I come from an Irish Catholic family, and YES the tendency to drink heavily is strong there. It's why I tend to stop, when I drink, at only one.

He might be a great guy when he's not under the influence of alcohol. I'm one of those who view it as a disease and truly believe he is most likely an alcoholic and wired very differently than the majority of the population. Him being born of Irish descent only reinforces my thought that genetically the odds were stacked against him in regards to substance abuse. He also had a very difficult childhood in that I think he lost his mother at a young age so there were some environmental influences as well. I work with a lot of recovering alcoholics and two women i know in their mid 40s both died recently from alcoholism and they were both wonderful ladies when sober who just could not beat this disease no matter how hard they tried. I agree. I think he's a real alcoholic, fine when he's not drinking, but when he drinks it's like a switch goes off. Some people are just wired differently.

I don't believe a word of what his wife said, except the part about them being in South America pursuing bullshit quackery for rich morons holistic treatment. She's obviously as messed up as he is, but in her own way. I said a page back that she's stupid for marrying him and having a child with him, but now it's clear that she's stupid and also has her own dysfunctional motives, which are plainly evident in her instagram post.

Oh interesting reading the top posts on the page here, yeah Jonathan is most likely an alcoholic but he may well be one no matter where he is from.
Irish born and bred and I drink sometimes a lot sometimes a little majority rarely, but I can drink and drank myself silly on occasion ,the genetic thing ttho,my Dad drank similar to myself my mum didn't at all but to be polite she would in her younger years accept a drink and pour it into a plant.
Yes we have a reputation for drinking, do I think it has gotten worse generation after generation yes I do I probably drank More in my twenties than my Dad did in his albeit different in drink style him whiskies and ale me ciders/wine and lagers, do I look at younger folk and the pre drinks(meetvup before they go out to pub/clubs and down bottles of spirits etc) and frown and say it wasnt like that in my day I do. Just to contradict myself tho asessability is easier now than before, more money too but drink laws/driving etc stricter too so swings and roundabouts maybe on the generational thing. Do I think I doth protest too much yeah I doth. We are a drinking nation and I don't know of stats saying how alcholic we are compared to others (UK, France, Italy, Australia wherever..)
Oh that was a bit of an unexpected messy rant!
(Now I'd live happyly(enough) without alcohol but do not take cheese from me I will fight you ..cheese and internet them I'm addicted to it would seem)
Hope Jonathan gets help and I don't see him in the death pool again or anytime too soon.

When I saw his name on page 1, I figured something like this happened. His wife has enabled him by apologizing on social media for him before, too. Ms. Lane, for the sake of your son, get out of there.
