I thought that was a direct hit on Sanz, too, Ripley, and wondered at that time whether S60 will get more passes than usual because it'll be an alternative way for NBC to send memos to Lorne Michaels.*
It delivered exactly as expected: breezy, intelligent, marginally-witty, self-important banter by talented performers. I'll tune in again.
*and, as berrybearie reports in the SNL thread, looks like the Sanz dig was adding insult to injury.

So Sarah Paulson is a lesbian? Cherry Jones, too? And they are dating? Where in the world have I been?

Aaron Sorkin hired Mark McKinnon (Kids in the Hall & SNL too, I think) to write the sketch portions of the show.

In perhaps the most annoying thing since Entourage's fake Aquaman ad in THR, Studio 60 comes up with Defaker, a blog that rips off Defamer in every way, shape and form, except for being funny. This vexes me in ways I can't quite explain. Seriously, I know studios are still trying to get the viral/online marketing thing down but trying to hard, being way too wordy and ripping off other people isn't the way to start.

Off Topic but I don't just get why they concentrate on doing good tv programming and let everyone else market for them- look at the lazy sunday thing or Colbert at the Correspondants Dinner. They were both sucessful virally as they were awesome, and people genuiely wanted to see them.
In conclusion stop sucking and people will be interested, don't try and get people interested in something that sucks (not that S60 does but y'all know what I mean)

Good lord, that blog is lame. My favorite comment on the blog:
The blog is exactly the reason why I don't have high hopes for the show. Things that are supposed to be "funny" and "real" are totally lame- the blog and the sketches within the show are examples of that. They may have hired Mark McKinney to do some of the sketch writing, but he was on some bad, bad, bad years of SNL, and they definitely won't let him do Kids in the Hall-type sketches on Studio 60. I'll still tune in, but I don't have high hopes.

We haven't even seen any yet, except for the opening bit of Peripheral Man which was supposed to be lame for plot purposes. And sadly enough, looked like it would fit right in on the current SNL. Personally, I loved every minute of this pilot. Sports Night is one of my all-time favorite shows, so I am excited that Sorkin is going back to writing about TV again.

Yeah, but apparently 'Lazy Sunday' wasn't awesome enough to prevent Parnell from being fired, so...
Honestly? I'm tired of people complaining about SNL. Yes, they're hit and miss, but no more so than the Carvey/Sandler/Farley years. I think everyone thinks the heyday of SNL was so much better simply because of the glasses of nostalgia -- they remember the good sketches and forget the bad ones. If anyone could please, please explain to me how/why 'Two Wild and Crazy Guys' is any different or funnier than the 'Night at the Roxbury' dudes, I'd be glad to hear it....The writing may vary but the cast right now is amazing. Just talented all around, esp. now that Sanz Talent is gone.
I love Sports Night but I worry that Sorkin may fall down the rabbit hole of meta and self-referentialism too often in this case.
Hell, give me some mushrooms and a hooker and I'll save TV.
Was Amanda Peet recast or something?
I think that Matt and Danny's chemistry may end up being the best part.

There was a cold opening sketch in Studio 60- with the President and Vice-President. The whole "legacy" joke was not very funny... yet they had the audience cracking up at it. I just see the sketches as a potential problem... who knows, they may end up not showing very much of them because of that very reason.
