Wow, I forgot to mention one of my huge, huge problems. Having the sketch be written by Matt (4 years ago!? And Wes was just waiting to steal it, I guess?) rang really, really false to me. Meanwhile, Defamer covers Defaker's comments section (even NBC's - sorry "NBS's" blog is chockful of people noting how much Peet sucks), including the priceless bon mot - "Aaron Sorkin, I'll be seeing you soon!" from a user named "Crack." Yeah, it's pretty much funnier than the entire pilot for me.

There was a cold opening sketch in Studio 60- with the President and Vice-President. The whole "legacy" joke was not very funny... yet they had the audience cracking up at it. I just see the sketches as a potential problem... who knows, they may end up not showing very much of them because of that very reason. The lameness of the Bush skit was exactly what led to Wes's rant though. It was intended to be lame. Because the only way Studio 60 (SNL) is allowed to mock Bush is for being a dumb/good-natured guy. It's completely toothless comedy due to all the boycotts/flag-waving nutsos, etc. I thought it really rang true. But, I don't expect this to get great ratings. I expect it's going to make people uncomfortable and people are going to think it's smug. I just hope NBC lets it run the whole season.

It wouldn't have been stealing. Any work Matt did for that show would have been considered a work for hire and the production company would have owned it and had every right to use it.

I didn't think of it that way - but would Matt's name have been on the credits?
Still felt too convenient was my main point.

Wasn't there something about years-old sketches being unearthed and used in Live from New York? I thought it was iffy, too, though, especially in light of how bitchily possessive each slew of writers is in controlling that which gets aired.

Speaking of ratings, on ET last Tuesday they said that the show had 12 million viewers, 5 million less than CSI: Miami. I predict that the show will be moved to another timeslot before it's not renewed for a second season.

There's nowhere else to really move it though. S60 was originally scheduled to air Thursdays at 9 until ABC moved in with Grey's Anatomy.
Hey, are we Canadians not allowed to post about the latest episode unspoilered because it airs here on Sundays?

I saw ep. 2 last night and it was a letdown. The BIG! NUMBER! to launch the show under the new producers was a big 'huh?' to me. It wasn't funny, it wasn't entertaining and Sarah Paulson's character who is supposed to be a singer (?) can't sing. The rest of the 'cast members' are truly dull.
I think including any aspect of the show within the show is going to be its downfall.
Too bad because the premise was promising.
Side note: Has D.J. Hughley (or whatever his name is) had plastic surgery? he looks odd.

I liked the episode but this series lacks something. I end up not remembering anything I saw. I also find Josh Lyman very annoying. I suspect I'll get tired of all the male characters being overbearing and condescending to the female characters (just like Sports Night).

Heh. So Aaron is still a little pissy about the internet. I might have to go check out TWoP tonight.
