There's an interesting tale in a TV Critic blog about this show and how Buzz Bissinger is complaining about how it's not a success. Here's the blog entry: SF Gate - TV blogIt is interesting. I agree with Buzz that the show is very good and it's disappointing that people are watching Dancing With the Stars instead. However, I also don't watch Friday Night Lights despite the fact that I really enjoyed the first episode? Why is that? For me it's just that I already have Gilmore Girls tivo'ed and at the 7 p.m. hour when I get home from work I'm still trying to come down off of the work day and I want mindless entertainment while I cook dinner. Also, I'm not THAT into football. I know that it's more about the drama than the football but unfortunately I have to sit through all the football scenes to get to the good acting and interesting stories. Also, I think the critic raised an interesting point--with a book and a successful movie, is this show overkill? I do think that it will find it's audience if it's kept on and I get the feeling that NBC will stick with it so that's good. It would suck if this show got cancelled and yet According to Jim is allowed to live on.

I started watching the show just based on all the early reviews it was getting. And yeah, Kyle Chandler certainly doesn't hurt. But I've found myself really starting to like it. I don't really have any interest in football but I graduated from high school a year ago, so all the teenage drama that school provides is really interesting (and sometimes hilarious) to me.
And c'mon, you can't beat last nights best line: "I think I told him to get our daughter in his backseat." That's gold!

Funny thing is, I'm almost certain my station dubbed over that line! When I saw it, Riggs said, "He's probably jerking around in front of a mirror," and I remember thinking that was really odd. I was wondering if it was only my area that got the dubbed version.

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever when it comes to football, American style, I don't even know how long a match is and how many players a team has (yes, I'm that clueless but hey, my cousins from California didn't know the same about European football a few years back!;-)). And still...I love this show and I'll be sad if they cancel it.

I was wondering if it was only my area that got the dubbed version. That's what I heard, too. I think that they probably couldn't get away with saying "jacking off," so they had to change it. I don't think individual affiliates dub over programs, but I could be wrong.

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever when it comes to football, American style, I don't even know how long a match is and how many players a team has. To answer your questions: a game is played in four 15-minute quarters, but there's a lot of clock stoppage. Including the halftime break, a high school game probably comes in at two to two and a half hours. As for the team size... 11, just like the "other" football. And clearly inferior to the best version, which has 15. =D ObTopic: I'm really enjoying this show, which I think got the tone of Bissinger's book (which I loved) down right. Which is odd that the fictional series could do it, but the purportedly "factual" movie missed the point entirely. Mrs. Rorgg likes the show too, but I think that's entirely attributable to Chandler and the Riggs-Street-Lyla triangle. She's a sucker for teen romantic angst. And... ya know... Kyle Chandler.

I really like Friday Night Lights. I have it Tivo'd from last week, and haven't had a chance to watch yet but I'm looking forward to it. I can't believe how seriously they take football in the south & Texas...so insane! My college football team wasn't even a big deal (even though I'm definitely jealous that I missed out on the big college football scene)...I really want to go to a game some day...My friend who went to a big state school sent me a link to this sweepstakes where you can win tix to the bcs championship game this year (they are giving away two tickets a day). I love free stuff, so I'm hoping I win, tee hee.
