Zach Gilford was wonderful as Saracen (Heeey, Joolie), and I was so glad he still showed up fairly regularly the last two seasons even though he was no longer in the credits. And a random aside on credits -- I don't understand why the dude who played Hastings or whatever was in the fifth season opening credits when he didn't have much more to do than Tinker or Buddy Jr. I wonder if TPTB had a larger storyline planned for him and it didn't pan out.
Tim Riggins (TK) was SO hot the first two seasons, I had trouble concentrating when he was on my TV. When he got with the neighbor, who was about the same age I was when the show first aired, I was all "Get that, girl!" I think knowing that TK was already in his 20s in real life made it feel less criminal. lol But then his hair got greasy the last three seasons, which was a choice, I guess.
The one thing I wasn't crazy about was how they handled race issues, especially early on with the Voodoo character and the comments Mac (the assistant coach) made about black football players. We literally never heard a peep from the one black assistant coach. And I thought things started off at East Dillon with a lot of stereotypes, but they quickly pulled it together.
We don't speak of Season 2, right? lol

I loved Connie Britton as Tami Taylor, but her career arc on the show never fails to crack me up. She went from stay-at-home-parent to guidance counselor to high school principal to dean of admissions at an elite private university. There must have been a lot of off screen graduate school, like earning a PhD in higher education administration, because that's a very unrealistic jump to make in five years.
The episodes about Matt Saracen and his dad and grandmother are still some of the most heart rending things I've seen on television.

I always wonder how such wonderful parents created such a flaky daughter.

I can handwave her being a guidance counselor. Principal was a huge stretch. Dean was ridiculous. They could have at least had a couple of lines with her reminding Eric how she had worked on her masters and/or PhD while staying home with Julie when she was younger or something like that. It still would have been a stretch since she hadn't worked for so long, but at least we would know she had some credentials. In regards to Matt, one of my favorite scenes was when he started singing Mr. Sandman in his grandpa's voice and it calmed down Mrs. Saracen. A quick scene, but so sweet.

I think I need a proper rewatch, as I remember the macro but have forgotten a lot of the micro.
