There was a train derailment very close to the high school. It was carrying chemicals and the EPA had to close the school and needed to make sure it was safe.

The hell? This show is bound and determined to jump the shark before the first season even ends, apparently. It feels as if they're not counting on a second season and are just filling every hour with as much contrived b.s. and as many cliches as they can. It's become a daytime soap on steroids! Naw, hell, daytime soap writers probably shake their heads in embarrassment at this stuff.
Train carrying toxic chemicals derails near school where star running back's bi-polar gf reveals fondness for firearms just before coach, who's already keeping the dirty little secret that star running back's a juicer must wrestle with the nasty reality that his players are getting Payola from some slimy athletic supporter, goes all Field of Dreams and enlists his scrappy team to turn 2-3 rakes, a couple bags of chalk, and some elbow grease into an honest-to-gosh regulation football field in something like 45 minutes so that coach has just enough time to shower and make it to an arbitration session where proud parents and dumbstruck legal eagles allow a seventeen-year-old (who's just been hit in the face with his sassy gf's really bad, yet plucky, 'James Caan as Brian Piccolo pep-talking Billy Dee Williams' Gayle Sayers into getting back up and giving it one more try' impersonation) to just take the proceedings over and righteously, yet pluckily, screw his own future JUST in time to save the day by completely revamping the skill set of the new star quarterback by uttering a few words of wisdom....leading to a new, though probably not lucrative career in the the exciting world of 17-year-old HS football coaching which will probably give him less time to hang out with his new/old best friend, which is probably a good thing since said friend is busy shtupping Mrs. Robinson next door while his old gf, who inexplicably is one of only 3 people in the whole town who's not at the big game, must pluckily, and wet-t-shirtedly, fight off an attempted rapist with the old car cigarette lighter right to the eyeball ploy....just before falling into the arms of the geek she's seeing with new eyes after one tutoring session.....right before new star quarterback, who after afore-mentioned words of wisdom morphed into a shorter Peyton Manning with the leaping ability of Michael Jordan, you got it!...pluckily runs one in through the driving rain to score the winning TD at the last minute (because that's the ONLY way our plucky team knows HOW to win--last minute and against seemingly unsurmountable odds, y'all!!) and send the home team to the state finals against some poor team that doesn't have it's own show, couldn't build a football field if its life depended on it, and maybe even doesn't have dirty locker Payola with which to buy steroids and bi-polar meds.
Whewwwwwwwwwwww. Out of breath.

Eh, I like that there's so much going on. I don't think it's soapy either (and I know from soaps, been watching 'em my whole life), it all feels very real to me.
I can't believe how fast this show moves, so much has happened since the beginning of the season.

I don't know why I always go into an episode thinking I'm not going to cry, but it never works, I should just accept it. It never fails, the last 5-15 minutes, there'll be some heart-wrenching scene that will manipulate its way into me and spark water works. This was an amazing episode! I love Connie Britton's character, a strong-minded woman who walks the center line pretty well. Good for her for standing her ground, but was it what happened to Tyra that made her want to stay in Dillon? I don't know how I feel about that because she actually seemed on board about Austin last episode so I'm just wondering why the change of heart.
I think I need to re-watch the episode before I actually comment on the entire episode, but the sweetest scene for me was Smash bringing Waverly a piece of cake after the Roast. It was such a simple gesture, but HUGE at the same time.
Last, but not least, this show NEEDS to be re-newed. Please NBC!!!

I thought the whole "TMU" plot was introduced as a way to kill the show. When do they announce if a show is renewed or not?
I am kind of sick of pouty Julie. At least she didn't have too much screen time this episode. I loved the scene between Lyla and Jason when she threw the ring at him. It was very well scripted.
Not loving Jason as the hard-ass assistant football coach, though. I was cringing through that whole scene!
Did anyone see the teasers for next week's season finale? A baby? Good lord...that better be some sort of out of context fake-out!

Best episode ever. NBC, you have to renew this show!!!
I think the only way this episode could have been better was if they actually lost the game (like in the movie), but i can see why the writers didn't go that route, in case they don't get renewed, at least everything is tied in a little bow. It's tough for me to believe that Voodoo's team never scored again in the second half considering how great Voodoo and his team supposedly is. To come back from a 26-point game I can believe, the the opponent not scoring at all? That one is a little tough to swallow.
Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler rock! I swear, I have a hard time believing they're not married in real life.
I hope the DVD comes out soon, with lots of extras.

I thought I read somewhere that they've ordered 6 more episodes.
The one jarring moment was when the Taylors went out on the hotel balcony (supposedly in Dallas) and the skyline was Austin's! It totally threw me for a second. I wonder why they chose to include a totally clear shot of the Frost Bank Building; it's probably the best known building in the Austin skyline.
Loved the scenes with Landry in the car with Tyra and family. Hilarious!

Never having been to Austin I did not find the hotel balcony scene jarring as I had no idea about how Austin's skyline compares to Dallas. I loved the scene where the team walks into the stadium and the locker room for the first time. And the little touches like Connie Britton standing on Kyle Chandler's feet while they hugged.

Just bumping because the season one dvd is now out (and at a ridiculously low price !) and I'm about 1/2 way thru. Had never seen the show, just heard lots of buzz. Very 'soapy', but I'm hooked so far. Matt is a hottie.

Sorry for the double post, but its been a month and we got season 2 tonight!!
So much going on.
I loved the scene where Coach was telling Tammi that he was going back to work early and she was holding in the tears until he walked out. My heart broke for her. I just love their relationship in this show.
and poor Matt. He was so hurt. I just want him to stand up and fight for Julie. I liked the scene with Coach telling Matt to do basically that.
Coach holding baby Grace. Oh lord, is it possible for a man to be so sexy just doing that???
