The writing just rang a little false last night...I thought it was weird that Lyla called her hooking up with Tim "having an affair." It sounded so out of place. Do teenagers talk like that? Another instance was when Julie said "I have dreams, too." Cheesy. Hate the precocious kid and Mrs. Robinson storyline. Blech. Otherwise I love this show. I hope it has another season. Agree with everything you said. The Julie and Lyla lines you quoted jumped out at me, as well. As did the scene with Tyra and her mom in the truck and at the dance. Huh? It was like a bad musical temporarily overtook my regularly-scheduled program. Actually, Julie always seems off to me. I know she's supposed to be only fifteen, but to me, she acts/sounds more like a 10 or 11-year-old. The babified pouting, whining, and reliable weekly semi-tantrum works my nerves. I blame the parents. ;D I hate her less than Lyla and Oliver, but wouldn't be averse to her, her pouting and her porn star hair running away from home in the next episode, either.

I didn't think Julie's line about having dreams too was cheesy at all! She's 15, she didn't want to move to Dillon in the first place, then she actually found people (OK, mostly a boy) that she's in the throes of first love with. Living in Dillon probably exceeded anything she thought was possible before she moved there. What I thought was especially good about that scene was the juxtaposition of her father's dream (coaching college football) and hers (staying with Matt). Just because CT's dreams are more adult, in the sense of doing something he loves while also being able to provide for his family, doesn't make them automatically more valuable. I really liked that CT apologized for not discussing the situation with her, while also reiterating that the future of the family is not up to her, it's up to her parents.
And I don't think she seems necessarily younger than 15, either. I mean, she's not playing with dolls or having tea parties with her stuffed animals. She's experimenting with her sexuality (remember the dress and heels she wanted to wear on her first date with Matt) and her boundaries (going to Tyra's party, being thrilled but scared over meeting actual strippers!), but it's obvious those are kind of her first forays into becoming an adult. She's intellectually precocious but socially and emotionally a bit sheltered by her parents, and also probably because (we've been given to understand) that they've moved around a lot. I guess I don't find that weird.

fernbeau, I didn't say she acted 5 or 6 and the subject of tea parties was not broached in my post, and since when is experimenting with one's sexuality a sign of maturity?. All I'm saying is that, from my experience as a former 15-year-old girl who hung out with other 15-year-old girls, the way that character behaves is not something I can relate to. I think they've purposely made Julie way more babyish than she ought to be. Maybe the writers think this is attractive. Don't know.
You probably have a point about her being sheltered; that had crossed my mind as well, which is partly why the "blame the parents" remark. In any case, I don't like her much and in my experience as the mother of a former 15-year-old, can tell you that that kind of whining and smack-talking were not in my own personal script. YMMV.

I was so glad Tyra saved herself. Landry is so awesome. Matt and Julie are too cute.

I was so scared for Tyra. This show captivates me like nothing else on television.

My love for this show knows no bounds! I did not see the attempted rape coming and I think what shocked me the most was the way it happened to Tyra could happen to me... it was so real. Growing up, I was always told to be aware of my surroundings, especially when walking to my car, but come on, Tyra seemed completely safe. She talked with a guy that seemed like he was good guy and walked back to her car without a person or car around her, she seemed like she'd make it to her car safely, then bam! The fact that it happened so quickly was scary. Good job for NBC promo department for not advertising it because if they even hinted this was going to happen, I don't think the scene would have impacted me like it did.
On a completely shallow note, Lyla looks great in jeans! Thank god Lyla finally called Jason on his "Pity me" attitude, it was nice to see Lyla has a spine. Jason as a coach? AWESOME! I always thought it was a good idea if Coach Taylor asked Jason to teach Matt everything he knows. Yes, my eyes welled up when I saw how Jason's face lit up when Coach asked him if ever thought about coaching. *sniff*
What was up with Jason's collar being buttoned all the way to the top during the court scene? I'm assuming that his mom buttoned it and he couldn't unbutton the first button by himself.
I loved the scene with the cows, did Mrs. Taylor/Connie Britton look scared of the cow? I loved how she moved out of its way. I wonder if that was part of the episode or did the cow spook her for real.
Next weeks episode with Coach's line to his wife, "I'm completely in love with you," I need to go find myself a coach of my own.
Anyone know how many more episodes we have left? It looks like next weeks episode doesn't involve the game yet, so is it safe for me to assume we have at least two more episodes before the season ends?

I think I heard them say there are three episodes left. I will miss this show when the season is over.
I love Matt so much. When he found the "gift" in his locker, and then was the only one to consider it wrong I just melted. Here's the kid who probably could use the money the most and he doesn't even consider keeping it.
I was also petrified for Tyra. That girl can't ever catch a break. Hopefully, she'll get some counselling to deal with what happened. Landry was awesome with her too.

I cannot stop thinking about this scene and that's exactly why. It was so random, and it felt so real. When I go out it's with friends, but I've left the bar and walked out to my car by myself plenty of times. Somebody's walking me out from now on. I think I'll cry if this show doesn't get renewed for next year.
