Life on Mars

Showcase is showing this on Monday nights at 10.

I was actually reading and had this on in the background and slowly got hooked.

Its the story of a cop in 2006 investigating a serial killer. He gets hit by a car and wakes up in 1973 where it seems the same killer is at work. If he can find the killer, he can stop the crimes in 2006 as well, the last of which involved his partner/girlfriend.

Well done show. Great cast.

The developer at my office -- the one with whom I share an unnatural love (of Battlestar Galactica, Heroes and Doctor Who) -- hyped this very strongly, so much so, in fact, that I devoted a frightening amount of bandwidth over the last couple of days to "acquiring" the series and I trust that when I get to the office this morning, I'll be able to watch in its entirety.

Cool premise and I'd heard the cast is great, too.

I'm two episodes in and loving it. I like the hardscrabble police station and its outrageously sexist and yobbish inhabitants. And the music! Cripes, it's good, and used to good effect, too, cranked way up and not just period-approriate but story-appropriate, too.

I like the way that the lead could be in a coma but we can't quite be sure. And that police methodology has, er, changed a bit in the last 33 years.

BBC is going to air series two soon. Rumour has it that it will be the last series.

Kind of a homage to the ultimate bad/cult British cop show The Sweeney. The cars, the clothes, the attitude.

Apparently, there will be an American version of Life on Mars so even if the original one ends after two seasons , the remake will (if successful) very likely go on longer.

Why am I thinking the American cop will wind up in either a Starsky & Hutch or SWAT type outfit?

God, if there ever something you could run interference on, it would be to bring this series to Region 1 DVD.
