To this day I am still on Wire watch for alums that turn up elsewhere. If more than one appear at once, I take it as a holy omen for the show (ala Michael B. Jordan & Wood Harris in Creed). It's one of my all-time favorites, and I take the fact that I watched it first-run very seriously. Every year we sat biting our nails waiting for the inevitable cancellation b/c who the hell would keep watching a show about drug dealers and other lowlifes? And every year Simon eked out another season from HBO and it was like CHRISTMAS, lol. Take my worry over Fringe & Hannibal being cancelled x100 because so many actors of color were being employed, and locally!
Also, all hail Simon for introducing me to My Eternal Bae, Idris Elba... YouTube wasn't in full swing yet and I didn't know he was British until around season 4. I was stunned. I don't know the B'more accent that well but he damn well passed for American for me. Season 2... "The girls in the box..." Powerful. Omar? Incredible. What a unique portrait of a powerful gay man in a society that was completely unwelcoming. And yes, Snoop--who was really just the actress with a different name (I think she got arrested afterward?). Lastly: "Where's Wallace? Where's Wallace?"
I have goose bumps. I love this show so freakin' much. And yay, H:LoTS alum! I watched this during the usenet days (remember that???) and people would have flame wars if you used H:Life IN the Streets vs ON the streets. It was so wild, and Kellerman was sooo cute.

I have a ton of stuff on my list to watch, but I've already started rewatching season 1. There's so much stuff I missed because there's so much stuff and so many characters to keep track of. By the time I got to Namond in season 4, my memories of Wee-Bay were kind of dim. Everyone's just so good. I don't think I was ready to turn loose of the show yet. Season 2 was my least favorite (although it was still a great season), so maybe I can take a break when I get through with Season 1. The Wallace situation absolutely devastated me the first time around, so I imagine I'll need a break again and get to watching some of the other stuff on my list. Oh, going back to season 1: seeing what a putz Prez was starting out was a little hard to watch. He really grew as a character over the course of the series. So did Carver but Prez's was the most touching, IMO, considering he blinded that kid at the beginning of the series. As brutal as the series was, Bubbles making it into a year of sobriety game me some of the redemption I was looking for. O.M.G. Andre Royo was AMAZING. I have lots of favorite characters, but I think Bubbles ties Omar for me. Oh, part 2! I was looking at Idris Elba's imdb page and one of his first roles was on Absolutely Fabulous! I know *exactly* what episode it was (he was a male prostitute for the orgy episode...I can remember him using the tongue-hardening spray). I used to have them all on VHS but ditched them because I don't have a VCR anymore. I have got to find a way to rewatch that episode! I'd love to watch The Affair for Dominic West, but I don't have Showtime and I can't pay for it right now. (I don't have the patience for the crappy quality of illegal streaming.) But I'd like to see him again. McNulty wasn't my favorite character but I thought Dominic did a good job with it. ETA: couldn't find a clip of AbFab with Idris but I found this.

I watched all seasons first run except for the first season, which I binge watched (I taped it off HBO) and then watched the entire season in one sitting. Yay to Idris Elba as well, and Dominic West (They once did one of those "it's not TV, it's HBO" commercials) and THAT'S when I heard both of their natural speaking voices and I was like, DAMN. Yes, I remember those usenet days and how if you said "IN" the streets there was war and you were cast out! BTW, Reed Diamond is STILL cute, he was on Elementary last week.

I still keep up with H:Lots actors too, particularly Reed Diamond, Andre Braugher & Clark Johnson (with whom I share a bday and who directed many Wire eps).
