My local fave channel has been replaying the full series, 1-whatever the last year was. I just cant miss an episode, theres so many hidden gems that I missed first time around. Last night was the one with Ross and Chandler going to Vermont for a very expensive weekend, and stealing all the freebies they could. And Ross was all hopped up on Maple Candy. SO funny!

I went and found the dialog for one of my absolute favorite scenes: Monica: "And Dad, you know that mailman you got fired? He didn't steal your Playboys. Ross did!" Ross: "Yeah, well hurricane Gloria didn't break the porch swing. Monica did!" Monica: "Ross hasn't worked at the museum for a year!" Ross: "Monica and Chandler are living together!" Monica: "Ross married Rachel in Vegas and got divorced... again!" Phoebe: "I love Jacques Cousteau! Rachel: "I wasn't supposed to put beef in the trifle!" Joey: "I wanna go!" Mrs. Geller: "That's a lot of information to get in 30 seconds." My favorite part was Mrs. Gellar's rant that followed (I'm posting this from memory, so it might not be 100% right):

That Thanksgiving trifle episode was on last night. My reruns are at 11:30, so I got out of bed and went to watch it in the living room on the big screen. That's how much I love that episode. Pathetic, but true. That episode is genius. Every other line is hilarious.

I watched it last night, too! I didn't let anyone else speak during the trifle scene because I was just waiting for... "It tastes like feeeeet!"

So I watched the E! True Hollywood Story on Friends the other day, and I was amazed by the number of "name" stars who turned down/didn't get the main roles. Here's a rundown of who was offered/tried to get/turned down each main part:
Ross and Phoebe: Schwimmer and Kudrow were pretty much the shoe-ins for these roles.
Chandler: They wanted Perry, but he was doing a pilot about baggage handlers in the year 2018 (!?!?!?), so wasn't available. Jon Favreau, Jon Cryer, Terrence Howard all auditioned, and they offered it to Craig Beirko (SP?), who considered it but turned it down. The baggage pilot tanked, so Perry got it.
Joey: Vince Vaughn and Hank Azaria auditioned.
Monica: Role was offered to Janeane Garafalo, but she turned it down. Mariska Hargitay and Nancy McKeon auditioned. Leah Remini almost had the role, until Cox showed up.
Rachel: Courtney Cox originally auditioned for the Rachel role, but they offered her Monica instead. Tea Leoni turned it down, and Nicolette Sheridan, Jamie Gertz and Parker Posey wouldn't even come in for an audtion when asked. Elizabeth Berkley and Melissa Rivers did audition. Aniston got the role even though she had another sitcom going; she was doing both for a short while until the other one tanked.
Imagine Friends with Leah Remini, Vince Vaughn, Jon Cryer and Melissa Rivers as Monica, Joey, Chandler and Rachel!
Well, maybe Vaughn would have been fine. I think it proves that a show's success isn't necessarily due to a clever idea or interesting concept so much as hitting casting gold. These six actually WERE friends off set, and it showed.
That was a big reason why they always had an all-for-one negotiation force, too. No divas there, demanding double the pay of the others or threatening to walk. They always stuck together.

Hank Azaria as Joey? Really!? Might have been the most unconvincing lothario-with-a-heart-of-gold EVER.

Unlike Sex and the City! -- I hate Sarah Jessica Parker for doing that to the show. It was an ENSEMBLE cast, woman!

I really wish Terrence Howard had gotten the role of Chandler. I don't know why.

Racial diversity? I really like Matthew Perry, so Chandler was perfect to me. Of course, a different actor would have made any character a completely different person.
I mean, Parker Posey as Rachel? The reason they chose Anniston is because they knew that Rachel might seem too unlikable in the wrong hands - too much of an entitlement princess. They wanted someone with vulnerability, too, and Anniston pulled that off. Parker Posey would have been funny, but she sure wouldn't have come across as sweet and vulnerable.
