Yeah, this was the perfect cast. I like Terence Howard too, but he just couldn't have done Chandler like Matthew Perry. I mean, Matthew Perry was pretty much exactly like Chandler in real life, from the interviews I've read. Could he BE any more perfect?

Did Matthew Perry also have a nubbin which he had surgically removed after his girlfriend with one leg dumped him over it? Because that would be awesome. ;D The only cast change I might have been able to live with would have been Kudrow. I can't think of who would have been better, but Kudrow's Phoebe always irked me and I never found her funny after the first season. Well, hardly ever. Unagi and the occasional Smelly Cat video are golden.

I heard that Lisa Kudrow was cast as Roz in Frasier at first, but the chemistry didn't work or something so they recasted.

Yeah, she was spacey and innocent in the first season, and that somehow changed into self-serving weirdness and nastiness. Just like Monica's enthusiasm turned into shrill controlingness.

I saw that THS on Friends as well as what struck me the most was how many of the people up for the main roles ended up guest-starring on Friends: Leah Remini, the guy who played Rachel's ex-fiance Barry (was up for Ross), Hank Azaria, and Jon Favreau.

Wow, ex-fiance Barry would have made a terrible Ross. Can you imagine him yelling "PIVOT!" ? No way.
I'd forgotten Lea Remini played the pregnant girl/new mom Joey befriended in the hospital. They had pretty good chemistry together. Or maybe she just wasn't as annoying then.

Shrill controlingness. Yes! that is perfect. I've been trying to find a way to describe Monica. Monica, Phoebe and Ross were my least favorite characters. Ross was wuch a whiny sop, I never found him funny. Monica's shrillness just grated my nerves, but I really turned on the dislike in the episode where she pretends to not be mad at Chandler just so she could have baby making sex. That just struck me as so wrong. I could never see why anyone would want to be friends with Phoebe, she could be such a nasty hag sometimes.

I remember the producers saying that they were talking to Matthew Perry before the show, and he said something like "I'm a good looking guy, but I never get women". They supposedly said "That's it, that's Chandler".

I watched TOW The Nap Partners again for the thousandth time. One of my favorite episodes. "Dude you didn't say die hard, Is everything ok?"
Good times.
