Oh, I totally expect them to kill her off. In fact, I thought that's the direction they were going when she got shot or whatever earlier this season. I was only surprised that they seemed to be doing it so early. Instead, they had Brennan "save" her.
What is this "bing" thing?
Anyway, I think Shan's description of ham-fisted pretty much fits most elements of the show these days. It's like the characters are all turning into cartoons, instead of real characters you can care about. It's a shame, too, because a few seasons ago, they seemed to be making all of the characters more relatable and deeper. Now they're one step away from slapstick.

"bing" is the Microsoft search engine. "I binged it" certainly doesn't have the same impact as "I googled it." Although they both sound kind of ridiculous.
The show certainly was firing on all cylinders up until about S3 when the whole Zack/Gorgomon fiasco happened. Down hill since then especially with Bones' character. She's more like Sheldon from "The Big Bang", I expect her to start saying bazinga anytime now.
I'm sure Brennan saving Hannah was a red herring and something will happen that will put Bones in the situation to save her again, only this time she won't be able to. I fully expect Bones to be a committed relationship by that time...because oh....the angst. *insert eye roll*

Bring back Zack! He used to be the "too literal" person that made Brennan seem more normal, last season it was like she was channeling him.
I kind of hope that the night guard is a figment of her imagination, and she ends the season in a loonie bin with everyone staring all worried-like through the little reinforced window of her padded cell.

I kept wondering that about the night guard, too. The way this show keeps milking the Bones/Booth stuff is annoying, but not as horrible as the Zack storyline or those stupendously hideous vanity episodes they keep doing.

Hmm. I got the feeling that this was kind of a wacked out "It's a Wonderful Life" type ep, so it wouldn't surprise me if the night guard (is this the only role you could get Sheriff Mars?! - AHH, WEEVIL!!) is a figment of her imagination. I mean... We all know that the murder victim wasn't talking back to Bones through her recordings. The whole ep had a weird, creepy feel to it, I thought. Maybe because Bones barely interacted with her crew as much as she does? I don't know. Just different.
They're so uneven with their writing of Bones. When they had that flashback ep about her and Booth first working together... She seemed FUN! And that was in her every day life. Now we only get Fun!Bones when it's a "Whee, look how wacky this is!" type episode.

I'm new to the show and have been watching season 4 with my son. He's watched them all and loves the show. Bones seems to me to have Aspergers. I read through the thread and on about page 10 someone mentioned Aspergers. Is she supposed to have Aspergers? Her behavior seems out of the norm even for tv.

I don't think she's supposed to have Asperger's, but instead it's a combination of her having had a crappy childhood so she divorced herself from socializing and became super dedicated on her science awesomeness. The difference between Zach and Bones is that Zach didn't pick up on social cues and related elements; Tempe did but didn't care.
ETA: one analogy that may or may not work would be that Bones is more like Sam in Quantum Leap: she doesn't get the references because she was never exposed to them, but once she "understands" them, she either accepts or discards them.

Thanks for the explanation, chonies. I think jumping into season 4 without the background isn't a good idea to get her personality.

My pleasure! Definitely look for earlier seasons so you can get a lot of the background--in my opinion, the show isn't always heavy on exposition like some series are *cough! SVU* but one episode that kind of stands out that "explains" Bones's personality is the one where she goes to her high school reunion. It's goofy, but I think it gets the point across.
