Can someone explain the hate for her? It seems so random. I mean, her movies are basic rom com, but she seems pretty benign. What did she do that makes people here hate her so much?

I was always annoyed that Sarah Polley had to drop out of Almost Famous thus ensuring that Kate Hudson is forevermore known as "Oscar nominee Kate Hudson". Sarah Polley didn't have to drop out. She quit after a few weeks of rehearsing because she didn't want to become Kate Hudson, basically. From the NY Times: Sarah has said elsewhere that the part required an actress that could be bubbly and lovable and that's not her. While I don't think Penny Lane was a role at all substantial enough to deserve an Oscar nomination, I do think Kate Hudson was better suited to it. I also wish Sarah Polley would work on being less of a gigantic drag all the time, but I've been wishing that for 15 years and it hasn't happened yet.

Can someone explain the hate for her? It seems so random. I mean, her movies are basic rom com, but she seems pretty benign. What did she do that makes people here hate her so much? I can't speak for everyone but here are my reasons: 1. She acts as if she became a big star due to her own talent and beauty and that having Goldie Hawn for a mother had nothing to do with it. She even kept this attitude up when almost all her early magazine articles compared her looks and mannerisms to her mother. 2. Her aforementioned "Well of course I will win an Oscar just like my mom did, duh" attitude, which still grates years later since she never admitted she shouldn't have been so snotty about the whole thing. 3. There have been numerous stories of her being rude to people just because they happened not fall out of a rich vagina like she did. I read a story not long ago about someone who catered one of Kate's parties and Kate loudly called all the caterers "the help" right in front of them. I believe thiese stories since she seems to only have friends who also grew up rich like Gwynnie, Stella McCartney, and Liv Tyler. Even the newly-wealthy aren't good enough for her. 4. She keeps getting hired for movies even though they keep bombing. I swear this girl can make a film that grosses fifty bucks and she still gets hired for more movies! WTF?! I actually have even reasons to dislike her (seriously she's loathsome) but I'm starting to sound crazy so I'm gonna stop now.

I don't hate her at all. Generally she doesn't bother me.
But public opinion started to turn on her when she started saying really dated things about gender, and cheating, and what can be expected of men.
There are also some interviews out there detailing how she's incredibly nasty to non-celebs, including journalists. So make of that what you will.
I have seen her admit that she owes her career to her mom and looking like her mom, so I will give her that bit of self-awareness.
She works pretty regularly, but the past 5-10 years it's been in super forgettable stuff that barely gets any attention. So whatever on that front.
Oh, and she lost a lot of weight after having a kid. Which made some people seethe. I mostly feel sad when I think about it. That was back when people were screaming in amazement over Victoria's Secret models walking the runway in thongs two days after giving birth or something.

I read an interview in The Guardian when she was promoting The Skeleton Key and she was beyond rude to the interviewer - condescending, entitled, snotty and acted as though promoting her movie was a waste of her time.
I knew the manager of a diner type restaurant she visited many years ago while she was dating Lance. While the rest of the party ate Kate had a kids hotdog, no bun. So I roll my eyes at her healthy lifestyle bs especially when she's going to be shilling a book - basically she starves herself and works out like a maniac to look the way she does but like the rest of them she'll claim its down to yoga! Drinking lots of water! And eating super clean!
The Lance thing reminds me of her shitty taste in men. Lance A & Alex Rodriquez coming to mind. Like attracts like I guess.

I will never stop hating her for that " Vanity Fair" Interview in the early 2000s where she forgot her sunglasses and made the interviewer go with her to a Rodeo Drive store so she could buy herself six new pairs of designer sunglasses. Six. Meanwhile the interviewer couldn't afford anything in a store like that so she just stood there while Kate tried on multiple pairs of sunglasses.
Talk about a "Look, I'm rich and important and you're not" moment. And the dumb snob wasn't even a big star then.

Nothing will ever compare to the backstabbing frenemy work of genius that was the Plum Sykes Vogue article. As funny as that Guardian article is, the trashing is so over the top that it makes me feel like defending her. Is it so bad to have bony shoulders and tell people you are an Aries? And I kind of love her response to questions that were obvious traps: "That is unimportant to the moral of the story." Maybe Kate wasn't very nice to Ms. Helen Pidd of the Guardian because it was clear that Pidd had it in for her. Some of those British journalists are outrageously hostile and don't bother to hide it.

Holy shit that was funny. I wish more celebrity articles were like that. It makes me miss "Sassy" magazine which did that all the time (probably why it folded). Remember when they outright made fun of Tiffani Amber Thiessen for her ignorance about Shakespeare?
Anyway, on to Kate. The part of the article that really made me pissed was when she said she wanted to make people happy. By making stupid rom coms? Bitch, you wanna make people happy, do some charity work, not star in crap like "You me and Dupree." And what's up with her basically blaming the interviewer for the pressure for her pregnancy weight loss? I wish the interviewer had said,"Oh honey, I don't care if you weigh three hundred pounds."
I actually thought the interviewer was unnecessarily nice To Kate at times, blaming Kate's bad attitude for her wanting to be home with her kid instead of working. as if that's an excuse, when millions of mothers work for way less money and perks than Kate does!

I think she was flat out rude to The Guardian interviewer. Maybe another interviewer would have glossied it up and painted Kate in a sunnier, more accommodating light but if Kate couldn't be bothered being pleasant for 30-60 mins why should the interviewer gloss over bad behaviour.
I think far too often celebs get away with rudeness and the media turns a blind eye because they don't want to loose access or offend the stars, their PR and the studios. And so they keep getting away with rudeness. It's pretty rare for an interviewer to call a celeb out so blatantly - Tom Hardy was recently called out for bad behaviour by an interviewer - so when it does happen I figure it's got to be exceptionally bad.
