Yeah, Bird Lady was beyond the pale. She's totally OK with the poo and the slug trails.<tamps down rising bile>
Hey, maybe we should recommend JSimp for the US version of the show. It was reported that she lets her dogs whiz and poo all over the house, and the place is a mess. Racks of designer stuff on the floor with dog-doo on it... there's a metaphor in there...

I saw it too: his place was right up there with the Bird Lady's, but while she was infuriating, he was just sad. He was so grateful that he was actually crying at the end. He was very sad, especially when you find out that it started to go down hill after he broke up. The bird lady was crazy, had a bad attitude and I'm sure she's living in a tip again and doesn't care. She just looked to me like she smelled like bird poo. Aw. I just felt so bad for the Hoarder Guy. He just seemed so overwhelmed and TIRED of those piles of crap in his house. He did seem genuinely grateful. The one troubling thing—when Aggie and Kim returned a month later, you could see the crap piling up willy nilly on the shelves in his kitchen. I hope he's not collecting again. Thanks, borborygmus! Also? I forgot one of their cleaning recipes, so I figured I'd just mix some of that magical Borax and some lemon juice in a metal bowl and use that to clean my shower stall. So, uh. Yeah. Turns out the stuff turns into a ROCK, so clearly I forgot to add something to inhibit that from happening.

LEB, I use lemon juice with baking soda instead of borax. If you have critters, baking soda is much safer - and cheaper!
I felt for the dump guy, too. The bird lady? Not so much.

With the revelations that some of my fave shows (real estate, Ramsay) are rigged, I have to wonder how much reality "How Clean Is Your House?" contains. Go ahead and burst my final and most cherished bubble, you cynics. Ruin the last television illusion I have left. Surely not Kim and Aggsie... ! ETA: The last episode yesterday featured another hoarder. I'd seen her before, but it was still alarming. She was a middle-aged empty nester who'd been in the same apartment for over 20 years, but apparently didn't start hoarding in earnest until her children left home. She looked awful: pasty, hollow-eyed and dazed. What I've read about hoarders makes me wonder if any of them can really just stop, even if their digs are cleared out and cleaned up. Sad.

From what I know about hoarders, it's a compulsion, related to OCD, and cleaning up once isn't going to stop it. They believe that if they throw ANYTHING away then they'll need it, so they have to keep EVERYTHING including trash. It's a physical pain to get rid of something, so I'm sure that it's very tough for the people that are helped in this show to stay clean, or even go through the process.

Yay!!! As much as I enjoyed (?) the Bird Lady episode, some of the charm evaporated after the 28th rerun.

I'm glad that they're going to have some new episodes soon, too. I saw the episode with the filthy Welsh artist AGAIN last night. I'm sure that she's hip deep in filth again by now, with her cat pissing all over the place. Lordy, I could smell the cat piss through the t.v.

I want them to give my house a deep cleaning and paint the rooms we haven't painted yet. That would be AWESOME.
