Welp, is anyone here planning on watching on May 21st?
We're Showtime-less at my house, so I'd have to resort to alternate means to watch it. The IMDB photo stills are creeping me the hell out, though, so I might make the effort.

You can buy it just while Twin Peaks is on and then drop it once it is done. I'm looking forward to it. Though Lynch recently said that "Fire Walk with Me" ties in pretty strongly, and that movie wasn't my favorite. Variety just released a big article on it. we may actually meet Diane.

Excellent. "Diane, I am standing on my head" is one of my favorite lines of dialogue ever.

AV Club had a good refresher on all the characters and who is returning. Its sad to see how many have passed since the show aired originally. I am glad we will get some Miguel Ferrer one last time. Its a shame about Michael Ontkean. I could have sworn I read somewhere that he was seriously ill. I know that Lara Flynn Boyle is a hot mess now but I am bummed that Donna is not returning. I mean if they can bring back freaking James. I also would have liked to see Catherine (Piper Laurie) back. But I'm happy that Josie is not returning. I also think they should bring back Windom Earle. I don't remember much but he scared the crap out of me. I know that technically he died on the show but so did a lot of the characters that are coming back. I'm looking forward to it. Though Lynch recently said that "Fire Walk with Me" ties in pretty strongly, and that movie wasn't my favorite. I liked Fire Walk With Me for Sheryl Lee's performance. The emotional beats it hit were brutal. But I don't remember a thing about the actual plot.

Watching the new season tonight. It is very Lynchian. It is weird and disturbing like before, though so far not as much humor as before. I can see why Lynch needed to go up from 10 episodes to 18 - entire scenes are compromised almost exclusively of people just staring at each other. He's taking his sweet time.
The scenes with the Log Lady are very bittersweet. I understand the actress who plays her passed away shortly after she filmed them, and you can see why. You can tell she didn't have much time left.
A lot of new characters and locations. Of the original gang/plotlines, so far (as in the first two episodes), we learn that Agent Cooper has been trapped inside the black lodge these 25 years, and it was his doppelgänger is the one who left the lodge and has been running around causing havoc ever since (and Cooper learns from The Arm/a tree demon thing that he cannot leave the lodge until the doppelgänger comes back, and yeah...don't know how that is gonna happen). Hawk is still with the police force, as are Andy and Lucy. And Dr. Jacobi is still running around.
And Kyle MacLachan wins the "best at aging" prize. He even looks better than some cast members who were younger than him back in 1990. Though Russ Tamblyn looks pretty good for 82.

I watched the first 4 episodes in one night which I don't really recommend. On one hand the show kept me intrigued enough that I wanted to keep watching. On the other hand that is a lot of weirdness to absorb at once. I mostly enjoyed it. Usually I am not a big fan of the surreal/abstract but I make an exception with Lynch. Nobody does nightmare fuel like him. I can't explain how he does it but there was some imagery and sound in episode 1 that just scared the crap out of me. That being said episode 3 really tested my tolerance. And Michael Cera in episode 4. WTF?
Kyle MacLachlan does look great. And I am really impressed by his versatility between dark Cooper and Dougie. I do hope we get original Cooper sometime this season though. I miss his enthusiasm. The log lady scenes were tough to watch. It was obvious she was very ill and in pain. Miguel Ferrer looked pretty drawn as well. I thought Bobby looked pretty good and I loved the scene where he saw Laura's picture and Laura's theme started playing. Andy's hair is so bad.
I am looking forward to the rest of the season although I wish there was just a little more balance between the more surrealistic aspects and a coherent story line. Just a little less of the Black Lodge. But this is David Lynch unfiltered so I know that is unlikely to happen.

While I won't be watching the new episodes for a while, this thread has me tempted to try and scrounge up the remastered DVDs of the original series. Sort of. I'm a little superstitious about doing that because all three times I've watched it, something very bad has happened to me/the world right afterward. In 1992, it was a personal crisis, 2001, September 11th, and 2003 was a bad break up.
Yes, rationally, I know Twin Peaks 1.0 had nothing to do with these events, but I know that if I give in and watch, I'm going to start worrying about WWIII.

Yikes, smilla!
I was talking about the first Twin Peaks, how I vividly remember Kyle Maclachlan picking up an ear in a field, and a weird robin. After much sleuthing, reading the episode plots, etc, it turns out this was the plot from Blue Velvet, the David Lynch movie from 1986. I think it would be worth viewing as the precursor to Twin Peaks.
