I hope Kylie gets better soon. Usually I really dislike the poptarts, but I love Kylie. She's on my list of people I wish I look like, and her music is fun.

I love her. Kylie is IMO the perfect disco-dance diva. I think her latest album is seriously underrated and her duet with Nick Cave, Where The Wild Roses Grow, has proven that she has a good singing voice.
I am sorry to hear of her illness and wish her a speedy recovery.

Back up for a minute. I said that Kylie seems like a really nice person because she comes across as such in her interviews (IMHO). She seems to do a lot of charity work, and she seems very loyal to her former lovers, even if they don't deserve it (ahem, James Gooding).
I also like that she doesn't work her personal misery for record sales. In fact, I think that she's an enormously private person considering how famous she is throughout the world, and I really dig that. Plus she works very hard at making great pop music and she is always performing and touring. She's had ups and downs in her career and she seems to handle them with aplomb and grace. That's why I think that she's cool and yes, probably a nice person.
And honestly, the fact that there seem to be NO stories out there about her being a bitch or a diva speaks volumes. If there was any hint of her being unpleasant or downright nasty, the press (the British esp) would be all over that shit in two seconds. You can't keep a bad attitude under wraps for very long, and she's been famous for what, 20 years?
I also think that she can sing pretty well. Her duet with Nick Cave is a good example of this.

Well said, Moldy. And not to get too kiss assy with the mods, but just wanted to say that you handle things on this board very gracefully.
On topic, I really hope that Kylie pulls through this breast cancer. I wholeheartedly agree that her music is total ear crack. I am a fag hag (or, to use the more PC term, fairy princess) from way back, so my life has been filled with Kylie's music since her resurrection in the States a few years ago. Any diva that the gays love is okee dokee in my book.
Also, I think part of the reason it's big news is two-fold. One, celebrities often seem invincible on some level, so when one is felled by illness, it seems like big news. Also, it raises awareness about the disease, which is always a good thing.

Wallflower - for somebody who thinks Kylie is just another "celebrity statistic" and who was "sick to the back teeth already before lunchtime" hearing about her condition, you certainly have a lot to say about this. I'm not particularly a fan either, but my heart goes out to anybody who's been diagnosed with a disease like cancer. If you don't like her, please post elsewhere.

Gosh, this is so horrible! I lurve Kylie! And I was just thinking about her today, listening to "Chocolate", before I heard the news. She's only what, 37? Only a couple of years older then I am. It really can happen to anybody - so scary. And money doesn't necessarily mean recovery. Linda McCartney died, and Lord knows the Macs were loaded. I hope Kylie will be fine and I wish her the best.

Oh, this news has saddened me so deeply. Everyone knows someone who has battled breast cancer (at least here in Australia where its occurrences are unusually high) and its the kind of thing that strips everyone down to being finitely human. It makes celebrity irrelevant.
With this in mind, hearing about Kylie really felt sort of personal (reminding of all those I know going through it, and knowing exactly what she will be going through in the next few weeks).
Crap. I actually wanted to use this post to just talk about Kylie. It has really just flooded into me how much I love her. She is one of those wonderful celebrities who does not take herself seriously who knows exactly what she does best and doesn't pretend to be anyhting more. She is a pop singer. She is a beautiful ass in beautiful clothes singing with a beautiful voice (in my opinion at least. It may not be strong, but it is very expressive and she knows how to use it. At the very least it is beautifully sounding). She is someone who people are bouncing along in their cars with and running to the dancefloor for. This aint no simple feat. She is just about making people enjoy themselves. She doesn't give a crap that you get to know her personally, she is not using her songs to tell the story of her life like it is so fascinating it should be taught on the school syllabus to little kids. She is a celebrity that is serving YOU. giving you what YOU want, and putting 110% effort in achieving this (yeah, yeah and getting paid extremely well for it). Kylie wants to give you a great time, and make you feel good. God bless her.
Man. What is this unnatural sensation?? I think I just wrote... a rave.
Chin up, Kylie!!!!!

I agree with you baff. Kylie is a refreshingly old-skool kind of celeb - she gets that it's about entertaining the public as much as, if not more than, herself.
I don't know a ton about her but I've never heard anything negative in the press. I feel sorry for anyone who receives a diagnosis like this, famous or not. I don't think people are paying more attention to it because somehow her cancer matters more than the cancer of a non-celeb, but simply because, as a famous person, things that affect her will be reported more than for a normal civilian. She's more-famous-than, not better-than.

I had a breast cancer scare only a few months ago and am in my early twenties. Thankfully all ok, but the shock of that alone and the worry before I got the all clear really knocked me for 6 so I can't imagine the worry she's going through at the moment.
I think its great the way that her family and boyfriend have cancelled all work to be by her side - I did wonder about Olivier before, but they seem to be going strong and has pulled out of his current movie (according to UK media sources - see http://www.skynews.co.uk) to be with her and her sister has cancelled work on her new album to fly back to Australia (maybe for the better, but this is the Kylie thread so won't snark on Dannii for the moment ) so it seems that she has a really solid support system. I did hear from someone who lives a street over from her that the media are camped outside her house so I hope that they ease up on this. Its bad enough having to deal with the disease but having to worry about the paps camped outside your gate while you're going through it seems like a bit much to me. Hopefully after a few days the media interest will die down a bit and they'll give her some space.
TEXTETA: Who is Olivier supposed to have cheated on Kylie with? I know he was pictured out with Michele Rodriguez in the S. of France but she's a lesbian isn't she?TEXT

He was spotted with Salma Hayek more than once during award season, and then I think there were a couple of other reports of other women, I can't remember who. There was also a report of him and Kylie arguing in a restaurant, and then later reports that she was going to tone down her work schedule to save the relationship ... who knows the truth eh? *shrug*
