I'm from the Boston area and went to school with a fair amount of Bostonians. Both Leo & MD's accent's were accurate, I thought. Sure, some are less noticeable like Leo's, but there are definetely some that are "over the top" like Matt Damon's.

I work with 3 programmers who are located in Boston - the two guys, you wouldn't really hear them and go "Oh they must be from Boston", but the lady is like the uber-stereotypical Boston accent. I had to fly out there for a meeting and to me it seemed like a lot of the older crowd had the really "over-the-top" accent and the younger crowd not so much. This same theory works in my hometown of Baltimore, particularly with old downtown ladies ("Hons"). But admittedly haven't been to Boston enough to have any more insight than that.

I've only known one person with a heavy Boston accent, and that was a nurse who hurled ice chips at my head because she had requested a "chawut" not chips. Two of my classmates are from the New England area, and I can't hear an accent at all.
Funny I completely forgot why I replied to this thread. Anyway, I saw him on Leno yesterday, and it's cute how close he is to his family and grandmother. This, coupled with Gisele saying that she's only had one love, but a very "intense, great" one, makes me wish he and Gisele would get back together and marry already.

Didn't Gisele finally get tired of waiting for Leo to marry her? I know he always goes out with models, but he was never Rod Stewart about it (i.e. dating women who could pass as sisters) until this latest girlfriend.

I just saw The Departed recently and thought Leo gave an absolutely riveting performance. Everyone in the movie was good imo, but he was outstanding. One of those actors who just doesn't seem like he is acting at all: effortless and natural. I've always thought he was an excellent actor, but this was the first one of his movies where I also thought he was hot. The scene leading up to the bed (heh) was just .... guuuuhhh... Must be his more recent grizzledness (grizzled for being Leo that is ) that makes him look just better and better to me. Damon was excellent too. The scene when they are both silent on the phone? Absolute gold. Such a simple scene and yet beautifully done. I hope to see The Departed win Scorsese an Oscar.

Yeah, he was really good in Blood Diamond too. The BO for that movie is disappointing, especially because it is such a great film. I think Leo will take home a few Oscars before he's done, maybe not this year, but he consistently gives stand-out performances. I'm still upset he didn't win an Oscar for What's Eating Gilbert Grape. My dad and I both thought that he was really handicapped.

^ He was brilliant in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. But Tommy Lee Jones won that year so...

My sister did, too. I remember when we saw the trailer for "Titanic," she said to me, "Hey, that guy looks like the handicapped kid from 'Gilbert Grape.'" Me: "Uh ... are you kidding?" Nope, she totally believed he was genuinely handicappped (and apparently had missed the several major movies he'd done in between those two). Now that's a convincing performance.
