You grew up in or near Canada, Ripley? The song was a big Canadian hit when you said. But apparently some deejay in the US heard it several years later, liked it and started playing it. One thing led to another and it was No. 37 in radio requests in 1989. Weird, eh? Imagine being a one-hit wonder, twice over.

I was totally running to the song "I Got You Dancing" by Lady Sovereign before Bally's co-opted it for commercials.

I thought I was late to the Marina and the Diamonds party, having only heard her last night on the Jonathan Ross show. She sang a song called "Hollywood" with the lyrics "I'm obsessed with the mess that's America". I've checked out many other songs on YouTube. She looks like Catherine Zeta Jones (Marina is Welsh of Greek extraction) and sings like a combo of Kate Bush and Lena Lovich. I think there's a wave of young musicians who were raised listening to 80's music, and they're recycling a lot of the 80's sounds. Which I loved then and love now.

I didn't discover them or anything but I just found out about the Avett Brothers (cause I'm old, ok and listen to stuff from the 80's). I trust the opinions on this board. So, what do you think of them?

Thanks, I'll risk downloading some stuff then.

Another "I know they're not unknown, but they're new to me" posts: I flove Tired Pony. "Dead American Writers" is my current earworm and it totally kicks my ass.

If The Black Angels hit it big, I know them. Currently on tour, and were on Letterman. Sooo weird! Great band if you like psych rock. Also, if The Generationals make it, they stayed at my place last week. Ridiculously melodic stuff, all these are great people!
And Avett Brothers are great, I think they will get bigger, they have good momentum right now.

I have had Matt Hires' "Honey, Let Me Sing You A Song" since they were first releasing it via Amazon as a free download, several years ago (my purchase history reveals that it was 2008).
Except back then, it was acoustic, which is a hell of a lot better than what they did to it (the acoustic fits much better with the tone of the song). Also, there were some phrase changes and they added a bridge.
It was fine the way it was.
Sorry, rant off.

Another fun group I've found recently is Black Dub. Better live, as this YouTube clip illustrates. Regardless, I just got the CD, and love it.
