Okay, a random bit of radio airplay this morning reminded me that Neil Diamond's Solitary Man is on my list of "dang, I shouldn't like that one, but somehow I do" songs. That wonderfully cheesy, soaring chorus! The too-serious geekitude! Cornball. Timeless. Neil Diamond, baby. Neil Frickin' Diamond. There's no shame in the Diamond love, Vacationland. I feel it too. Now for something truly shameful. . . . . . Peter Cetera's solo career. That 's right. "Next time I Fall", "Glory of Love". All of that watered-down adult contemporary pop. Just don't tell anyone; it'll be our little secret.

OK, I'm going to confess that, while I would never dream of actually owning any, I have a soft spot for really terrible 80s MOR power ballads. Admitting that makes me feel kind of dirty.

So many songs listed are my fav's, too. I don't really have a list in my head - it kinda takes me by surprise. For instance, I was in the supermarket yesterday, and Amy Grant's "I Will Remember You" came on. And it suddenly occurred to me that I really like that song. A lot. Some others I've heard in the last few months and liked:
*Olivia Newton-John - Have You Ever Been Mellow (I actually sat in the car until it was over) *Pina Colada Song - Rupert Holmes *Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb (heard it just today) *Sharin' The Night Together - Dr. Hook (?) *Love Will Keep Us Together - Cap'n + Tenille *Don't Take Me Half The Way - Crystal Gayle *Here You Come Again - Dolly Parton

*Sharin' The Night Together - Dr. Hook (?) Don't know if Dr. Hook did that one, but I have a soft spot for his "When you're in love with a beautiful woman" and "Sexy eyes." It's that late-70s/ early-80s pseudo-disco sleaze that really gets to me. Also, I have been known to blast Celine Dion's Let's talk about Love CD (yes, the one with the Titanic song on it)and sing along to it when I'm home alone.

I found this greatest hits tape in the supermarket a few years ago. It has all the good ones: * Here You Come Again * 9 to 5 * Jolene ( my personal fave) * I'll Always Love You ( the real, non-Whitney one) I play it all the time in the car and sing out loud - unfortunately, for my kids, most of the time. ;D

Aw, be proud of liking Dolly Parton! She's cool and is actually a really talented song writer.

Oh I love Dolly! I not only have a bunch of her cd's but I also went to see her a few months ago. Yes, her show was velveeta cheesy, but her singing was fantastic.
Probably the most embarrassing cd's I own are Ronnie Milsapps, Randy Travis, the Chicago movie soundtrack, the Evita soundtrack, and Cher's greatest hits album -- and I'm mad because it doesn't have United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

Chiming in on the Dolly love - she's twenty kinds of awesome. Never be ashamed of your Dolly stuff.
I, however, try to hide the fact that I still have a Spice Girls CD in my car.

Oh Lord, me too. That song is kinda crackish.
Lately, though? I cannot get that song "Slow Down" by Bobby Valentino out of my head. Which is bad because the song is all about a dude staring at a girl's ass. I should know better but every time it comes on the radio, I'm jamming. At least I know I should be ashamed....

I was looking at the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 1999, and realized I love most of those songs, or at least like and can sing the chorus. I really shouldn't, because that was the year of the teen-pop, with all its boy bands and Britney and the like. Even though I was an appropriate age to like it, still liking it now can't be normal.
