I was on the Bloc Party train way before I was on the Kaiser Chiefs train. I didn't like Kaiser Chiefs for the longest time because everyone was so head over heels for them it turned me off. So I found Bloc Party and then caved and bought. Bloc Party still kicks their asses though. Kele Okereke, mmmmm.
Really over Speed of Sound, now I'm all about Fix You. It made me tear up the first time I heard it. Beautiful song, no Scientist but beautiful.

I don't get the massive outpouring of Coldplay love. All their shit sounds the same to me. Strangely enough, I like what I've heard of Keane.
I have the biggest soft spot in my heart for BritPop. The cheesier, the better.

I love you. I liked Coldplay until the release of "Clocks" (which I viewed as the weakest song on their Rush of Blood to the Head album), and then everywhere I turned, that goddamn song played. Even now, I still like everything prior to that song, but everything released afterward...DIE!
I love Brit Alternative music. The Bravery are one of my favorite bands right now. And though London may not like the Kaiser Chiefs, I do love them. I think most Brit music blows away music from the US.

I'm excited for the Sugababes fourth album- all the stuff I've heard about it has been very positive. The first single is apparently called Push The Button, has been produced by Dallas Austin, and is very electro. My love for Mutya's lovely husky voice knows no bounds.
I love the Kaiser Chiefs' singles Everyday I Love You Less & Less and, particularly, the immense I Predict A Riot, but I'm not sure if I can be bothered to invest in a whole album- can anyone tell me if it's worth it? They strike me as a more interesting Franz Ferdinand, but still as somewhat one-note.
The two acts I've been told to look out for next year are Plan B and Genie Queen. Plan B is a white rapper who performs with an acoustic guitar who is said to be phenomenal, and Genie Queen are a currently unsigned girlband in the 'sophisticated pop'/R&B mould of the Sugababes, whose material -particularly "stupendous techno epic" Resist The Sex Act, is said to be amazing.
Oh and while I'm here I may as well discuss British urban music. I'm sorry, but I hate hate hate grime. Supposedly the British answer to hip hop, it has admittedly produced the fucking brilliant Dizzee Rascal and the promising Shystie, but on the whole the scene is far too insular and the rhymes are frequently average at best and appalling at worst. I don't care how much smug journalists living in Hoxton/West London rave about it; it's shit- the worst offender definitely being the appalling, gimicky 'white midget' Lady Sovereign (though her diss of last year's forgotten British urban It girl Jentina, Sad Ass Strippa, was admittedly hilarious and worthwhile).
Oh, and Charlotte Church's latest single, Crazy Chick? Is life-affirming. Anyone who loves British pop needs that song in their life. I'm now quite looking forward to the album, particularly Confessional Song, which is said to be the standout.
I'm also much looking forward to Goldfrapp's third album out this year- haven't heard lead single Ooh La La yet but it's said to be very, very good. Yay. Alison is an icon in the making.
Also looking forward to the Audio Bullys next CD- their last album was severely underrated, and their new single Shot You Down with Nancy Sinatra climbed to three on the charts last week (good to see the recent incorporation of downloads into the singles chart spicing it up a bit and creating some major climbers for the first time in years).
And what would this thread be without my 2005 music heroine, M.I.A.!? Seriously, if you haven't got her debut Arular, GET IT NOW. It reaffirmed my belief in British rap- record of the year without a doubt. She's also set to make a cameo on Missy's latest album, so yay her.
And how could I forget my girl, Amy Winehouse. The perfect antitode to fucking Katie Melua (who, by the way, only wrote two songs on her album- 'singer-songwriter' my ass), Jamie Cullum (the smuggest man ALIVE) and their squalid, inferior jazz lite. She is a singer, a songwriter and a star which is a combination we haven't had in British music in a long, long time. And what songs. Probably my current favourite is You Sent Me Flying, but all of her debut CD is must hear stuff.
That said, I'm sorry but I hate McFly. They are preferable to the now dissembled Busted, however.
Phew.

How can you tell if music is British or not?

Well...Kylie is considered BritPop although she's Aussie. Anastasia could be considered BritPop (as could The Bravery) although she's fom Chicago and they're from New York.
Essentially, if you could rationally dance to it, I consider it BritPop or BritPop influenced. And yes, I could easily dance to early Oasis or Blur. Or recent Oasis and Blur for that matter.
YAY! Now, did Mutya ever name her baby? Because this fan wants to know, damn it! And Mutya is my pretend girlfriend. Well, she and Kimberley from Girls Aloud and Kelli from Libery X.

Well America finally has their version of Busted. Their called The Click Five, but there's five and they're cuter and less annoying then Busted. The music is so much alike though. Just the Girl and What I Go to School For sound exactly the same.

Just wanted to say that I really like the new Sugababes song. I'm just amazed that those Lost fans haven't been analyzing the lyrics for a possible connection and clues yet. It is called "Push the button" after all. Really catchy song. Also, I can't wait for Will Young's new album. I've heard his new song and loved it. Then again, I love everything he does. Sue me. I'm guessing people in Britain must be sick and tired of "You're Beautiful", right? I can't listen to that song too often as James Blunt's voice gets on my nerves after a bit. I've only recently heard an interview with him online and boy's got a funny speaking voice as well.

I swore Rod Stewart had a new song out the first time I heard "You're Beautiful." James bugs the hell out of me and the people at my work, in lovely Laramie Wyoming, love the hell out of him and willnot stop playing his damn album.
Of course they all hate Go! Team, so it makes it even more irksome.
