Greecers on the other side of the pond, I need info on a Scottish group called The View.
I just downloaded two of their songs after reading an article on them in the New York Times.
Typical Brit hype or possible staying power? Anyone? Anyone?

So, can Britain win Eurovision with Morrissey?

So, can Britain win Eurovision with Morrissey? Well, he'd have to be a better chance than Jordan!

I've known about them for awhile.. they opened for Babyshambles (IIRC Pete Doherty is the one who "discovered" them when they gave him a demo CD). Overall they bore me, but they have a couple of okay songs. I heard their leaked album, and it isn't bad, but it's nothing special. Right now I am just really tired of those sort of bands (The View, Fratellis, Kooks, etc, etc).

Funny thing about last year's performance: I never get any comments on my blog except when I mention my longstanding dislike of Daz Sampson - then the hate mail flows.
At another forum I look at, which is pretty full of Eurovision purists, they seem to have pretty mixed opinions on whether Morrissey competing is a good idea or not.

I've hated Coldplay since I listened to "Yellow" on the radio. I think they are highly overrated.
I enjoy listening to The Wedding Present. They've ben around for ages. David Gedge has an offbeat voice that somehow manages to work. Does anyone else here like them?

In awesome news the Girls Aloud v. Sugababes cover of Walk this Way is on the internets. Its not as good as I had hoped, but its for charity and they all look pretty-including Nicola, who usually looks so out of place and uncomfortable.

Because I am elderly and out of any worthy pop-culture milieu, I just heard about Lily Allen last night on Saturday Night Live. It seemed she was 'synching but I loved the songs and am waiting until the record stores open to trot out and buy the album. Of course, I've been reading up on her on the interwebs and am concerned that I'm buying the equivalent of a Nelly Furtado cd. And then I stop caring, and then I start fretting that I'm being a big dork. I liked the sunny, 4th wave of reggae feel, and the bracing meanness of the lyrics. Should I just be lucky there's a giant lack of press about her here?

It depends do you like your popstars to be polite or more on the opinionated side? I love Lilly personally LDN has been my jam this summer and her b-sides like Cheryl Tweedy, Nan, Your'e a window shopper and Oh My God (Kaiser Chiefs cover) are great as well.
When she was on SNL how did they introduce LDN? Did they say London or L-D-N?
