God, I HATE that song! I mean, I hate most schmaltzy, "I'm Trying SOOOOO Hard to Be Romantic" EZ List'nin' garbage, but I really hate "Lady in Red." Not only is the guy's voice awful and whiney, but it's so fucking self-aggrandizing. Look! The hottt chick in the red dress? MINE! With ME! Jellus, ain'tcha!? I'm a STUD!
HATE!
And when The Husband-Type Man and I got hitched, we had a strict "No EZ List'nin' Music at the Reception" rule. We gave the DJ a playlist, and told him to stick to it. Until near the end of the evening, when he thought it'd be "romantic" to slip in "Lady in Red" because EVERYONE just LOOOOOVES to hear that at weddings, right? Wrong. Not only did a bunch of us groan in unison, my friend ran over to tell him to quit playing that shit, because it's one of the bride's most-hated songs, loser! (There was a REASON why we gave you a playlist, tool!)

Words can't describe my hate for lonely by Akon. The hook alone just grates your ears like nails on a chalkboard. The part I hate the most is when the guy repeats his own hook (" I'm so lonely, so lonely Mr. lonely, Mr. lonely...").

And as soon as I saw this thread, I raced over to post that exact song. I didn't know there'd be a lineup. God, if any song makes me want to rip my ears off, it's that one. The nasal intonation. The warbling worshipping. After hearing that song ONCE, I've never wanted to wear anything but black and gray for the rest of my life. Every time I hear that first few bars before I smash the radio out, I have to look up to see if the Kool-aid man is crashing through the wall. Hate.

Whenever that particular line is sung, I always snarl "I hope you DIE!"
Amen to "Soldier". Great lyrics, ladies:
I know some soldiers in here Where they at? Where they at? They wanna take care of me Where they at?
Very uplifting. I feel so proud to be a woman when I hear that.
Oh, and this:
Known to carry big things, if you know what I mean ...
Gosh, no, I have no idea what you mean, because you're being sooooo subtle.

How about that Nelly / Tim MacGraw song...
Cause it's all in my head I hear it over and over again... The same lyrics over and over again... and I can't make it (stop) can't take it no more

I can't stand Daughters by John Mayer. Yuck yuck yuck. That whispery singing makes my skin crawl....and I think the lyrics are totally insipid but I can't be sure because I can't bear to listen to the entire song to find out.
Open Arms by Journey -- "heeeeeeere I am" and there you go as fast as I can change the channel.

It ... oh, God ... sounds as though someone covered that piece of shit? There was a song out with those lyrics ("What About Me?" by Moving Pictures, I believe) about 20 years ago.
No, no, please -- tell me that nobody would do such a thing. Not in a just world, they wouldn't. What I fear was "the original" was just that bad.

I can't stand Gwen Stefani's latest offerings, both "Whatcha Waiting For?" and "Rich Girl". Terrible, terrible, terrible.
Re: the first song--are the words really "take a chance you stupid ho"? Because it that's true, then I'm moving this to the Horrible Song Lyrics thread.

blondie said Australian Idol runner up Shannon Noll covered it. And he's really trying to sound emotional and, you know, guttural but he just sounds like a big whiny baby. I understand it would be successful in Australia because of all the Idol-hype behind it but I have no idea why it was so successful here in Ireland. Seriously, the success of this song has made me question the sanity and intelligence of my fellow countrymen. Firstly the song is shit; secondly he was a nobody to us, I didn't even have a clue who he was until I looked him up for this thread so why he was played so often on the radio before the single came out is beyond me; thirdly the song didn't even have a proper video, whenever they showed that song on television they just had the single cover on screen for the entire song and fourthly; its a shit song. Yet it was in the charts for months!
