Know what? I really enjoy Bob Dylan's SELF PORTRAIT--heck, I'm even fond of the long-deleted scraps-from-SELF-PORTRAIT-sessions compilation DYLAN (issued very briefly in Europe on CD as A FOOL SUCH AS I). Liked them when they were brand-spanking new, and like them to this day. Man, he was in great voice there.

specious
Green Day - with ya.
Coldplay - WORD. Particularly since there's an implied Gwyneth with every song now. Like she's the fifth member of Coldplay. Ugh.
bland:
*hug* I swear I thought I was the only one who thought that about the Beatles. Dad said one day I'd get into them, but...nah.
And as for Kanye...you betcha, I'm right there with ya.
And, to add an original thought from me...I love Tom Jones without shame. When I'm in a rotten mood, NOTHING picks me up like "If I only knew"...yes, even WITH the ungodly howl at the beginning.

Is this an UNpopular opinion? Coldplay are DIRE. Chris Martin is a talentless whiner with a foghorn for a voice and his highschool lyrics are not the profound works of rock he thinks they are. HATE.

Count me in on the Beatles hate. I so wish I had been born when they were new. I would have been the girl in the black leather jacket and Stones shirt talking about how bad the Beatles suck.
I just think everything about them is stupid. Stupid not-cute Paul, Stupid pose on Rolling Stone, Stupid crossing the street thing that every cheesy photographer tries to emulate. Stupid.

Well, I love Coldplay, which is clearly the unpopular opinion around here. So there.
I think they get a lot of crap for singles which aren't that representative of their albums. Seriously, on the strength of Politik and Amsterdam alone, esp. the latter, which is just exquisite. (I'm almost willing to add Square One and God Put a Smile on Your Face there, but not yet) And both of which have more anger than one would expect from Coldplay. And besides, writing a successful pop song is not aking to eating babies, though god knows some pretentious blindly indie-worshipping critics think it is. Sorry, I got kinda burned by a lot of 'great' indie bands or CDs that I bought because such-and-such magazine said they were amazing, but a lot of them turned out to be not really listenable, outside of mopey headphone purposes. So sometimes I like music that I can sing along to in the car and if that's Coldplay, so be it.
I don't think the lyrics are brilliant or anything and I'm not sure that Chris Martin does either. He/they are incredible live and he is just ridiculously goofy. I can understand how one could think that he'd be unbearable, but it surprised me too.
Agreed with the Beatles non-love...and Dylan never really did that much for me either, with the mumbling and the twanginess and whatnot. My friend will play Dylan when I'm at her apartment or talk about how awesome such-and-such song is and I just have to smile and nod.

While I don't love Coldplay; 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' has some beautiful moments on it (and I do include God Put a Smile on Your Face there!). I've seen Chris Martin interviewed on TV and he's adorable, and just a little self-deprecating. He doesn't strike me as too self-important, although he's married to Queen Gwyn so I could be wrong.

On "Without a Trace" last week, they played some Coldplay song at the end of it. And I screamed "Nooooooo!!!!" Coldplay really is U2 for morons. Well when U2 wasn't recycled crap on a stick. After many years of ignoring my country music CD's, I threw in my Dixie Chicks CD's. Wow, they really are pop country. Completely and utterly disposable. Especially when compared to Johnny Cash. Even Garth Brooks has some great songs, especially at the beginning of his career. The Dixie Chicks? Not so much.

I like the song My Humps. Yes, it's vapid and shallow and stupid, but it's also a fun song. I know articles have been devoted to how dumb it is, but it is just so catchy and irresistable to me. But I'm pretty sure that's ban-worthy opinion right there!

Maybe it's because I was 4 years old when it happened, but I couldn't give two shits about the anniversary of John Lennon's death. Oh, I like the Beatles okay but John Lennon was a musician, not the greatest man in the world, ever. It's very sad that he was murdered by a psycho, yes, but stop already with the pandering memorials.

Shania Twain has stood the test of time better than the Dixie Chicks. Maybe it's because she makes no bones about what she is - someone who makes popular music to be sold at WalMart.
