okay, it was actually July 1st, and I think it was Capital Public Radio (Sacramento); definitely not my local UNR (Reno) NPR station. It was such an awesome, rollicking song, like rowdy 40s style but I am almost positive it is a modern song, because next they played some awesome Cracker. Really, I loved the whole program, but that song stuck out! I listened to it all through the mountains coming back to Nevada. It was awesome and I have to keep an ear out for local programs similar. *off to search the Northeast Cali NPR music programs* thanks for the tips, Chonies and Pearly! I still want to know what it was!!

I know! Me too! I wish I had that Shazam thing on my phone when I heard it, my husband uses that music identifier app all the time. Maybe I will download today. I've done all sorts of searches even since that post. No luck. I wonder if I was wrong, and it really was an old song...but still, you'd think it would pop up somewhere. Hmm...Maybe I need to go hit up my local used record store- they are like gods around here with their unlimited knowledge. If I figure it out, I'll be sure to post a link!

celery dunk! I love that you tried to find it! It's not the one, but thank you so much- and the youtube link gave me a good idea to expand my search there. I MUST find it and bring back to you people here!

That link just takes me to the main page of Youtube, but if it's Haley Bonar, then that was my guess. I saw her this weekend at sxsw and when she sang this song I thought of this thread, but it's definitely not rowdy.

On Quantum Leap this morning there was a 1957ish song that I've heard a million times before but can't identify, in part because the lyrics are so generic. It's sung in a kind of slide-guitar sort of way, and goes something like this
"Oh baYYYYbeeee, I love you soooo! And all these peeeeeeeple, they just don't understand"
It's kind of vaguely surfish rockabilly, and reminds me of Sleepwalking by Santo and Johnny, and has a slowish beat, or at least compared to something like Dreamlover. I can't tell if it's a tenorish male voice or a female voice or possibly a duet. It's not Paul Anka's I Love You Baby, or Oo Wee Baby by anyone.
ETA: It's Love is Strange by Mickey and Sylvia. Apparently, if I'd been a better Dirty Dancing fan, I would have been able to identify it. Le sigh.

Excuse me for yelling, but.... I FOUND THE SONG!! It is a little duo (contemporary) named Truckstop Honeymoon. Apparently, this song is only from the last decade- so not quite as old as I thought. Oh, and it is called Me and My Bad Attitude. I love her voice- she sounds so old fashioned to me. I'm quite relieved that I solved this year-long mystery.
