I'm going to borrow this thread to ask a question, anyone have any great roller skating song ideas?

One of my kids works at the local skating rink and they don't do specific Skate Theme Skate Times. They don't really have a DJ, just play Pandora. I told her about going skating when I was young and the couples skate, girls and boys skate specific songs. Last night they did Single Ladies for the girls skate, they couldn't think of anything for the boys and played Now You're a Man off someone's Ipod and kind of pissed off the regulars.
They occasionally play old skate music but I can't for the life of me think of anything newer for the boys.

I don't have any good suggestions of new song for the boys, but your question took me back.

If you've ever seen the TV show Malcolm in the Middle, there is a great episode where the father Hal makes his son Malcolm perform a skating test in order to play roller hockey in the street with his older brothers. The first clip is Hal performing to the song "Funkytown" by Lipps Inc. The second clip is of Hal, wearing sparkling spandex, performing to Queen's "We Are the Champions". Both of these are great roller skating songs, although not new.

For a little romance, when I was a kid going to skating parties, the DJ always played Cheap Trick's "The Flame" for the game when boys lined up on one wall, girls on the other, and one person would start by picking a person of the opposite sex to skate with, then the DJ would say "switch" and both would grab another partner, and so on for a few songs. (For the life of me, I can't remember what this is called.)

At my skating rink this was called "Snowball." And since most of the kids were too shy to actually approach anyone of the opposite sex, it usually ended up with 2 or 3 couples skating and the rest of us standing against the wall like idiots.

There are so many 80s songs which remind me of the skating rink but two of the biggest are Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue" and Bon Jovi's "Never Say Goodbye." Good times.
