Now that was the epitome of "awesomely bad"!!! That was hilarious!!! Question for you guys, what is one of your favorite music videos? I think that "Let Forever Be" by The Chemical Brothers is definately in my personal top ten. I remember that when I first saw it, I went "WTF!", but in a good way. I also love "Come Into My World" by Kylie Minogue. I guess the newest video i've seen in the last few days was "Who Knew" by Pink, and personally I think it sucks. When I heard this song on the album, I never envisoned that the video for it would take place in a dirty carnival with a guy shooting up heroin at the end. OT: GirlNamedCarl, i'm sorry about your loss and that you've been having such a rough week.

I love the US version of Tori Amos' "Cornflake Girl," where the mean cornflake girls have the raisin girl on a leash in the back of the truck and then they cook the hot guy in the cauldron while they dance around. It's very low-budget but cool and inventive. I'm convinced Lars von Trier ripped off the plot of Dogville from it.

I'm kind of in a big Divine Comedy kick (see the Best. Voice. Ever Thread), and one of the reasons I'm feeling the love for Neil Hannon is because I recently found a bunch of videos on YouTube. National Express is my current favorite video. It's awesome. Pitch-perfect 90's Britpop, ultra catchy song, snarky lyrics, and it's set in a mental ward. What's not to love? Really, The Divine Comedy is a sorely underrated band.

I've only ever heard "Generation Sex" and "I've Been to a Marvelous Party" by The Divine Comedy. I really liked the latter, it's on a Pet Shop Boys-produced compilation of Noel Coward songs. I haven't checked the Best. Voice. Ever. thread, though, so I could totally be talking down to you. But mostly I just wanted to say that based on that one song, I heartily believe that The Divine Comedy is awesome. The albums are hard to find, though.

Talking down to me? Nah. I didn't know that such a compilation existed! Ooooh, new addition to my miles-long CD wishlist. And yeah, sadly Divine Comedy albums are kind of hard to come by in the US. Usually you have to buy imports from the UK. If you're interested in hearing more, there are quite a few videos on YouTube.

I was just watching VH1 classics and they played "These Dreams" by Heart and.... wow. Cheezy 80's deliciousness. Huge skyscraper hair, dramatic posing, bad special effects. Isn't Nancy Wilson married to Camerone Crowe? He couldn't help her out a little? Yikes.

Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time." I like the scene of her walking on the street with her suitcase. Thanks to Youtube, I finally got to see it again.
Madonna's "Papa Don't Preach" I like when music videos actually go with the song and tell the story.
Bjork's "It's So Quiet" -- I like animation in music videos. The fluffy slippers are precious.
Fatboy Slim's "Rockefeller Skank" and "Weapon of Choice" -- Spike Jonze makes the most mundane things interesting in music videos. Christopher Walken dancing around a office is classic. Seriously, it would be fun to just blast my favorite song and do a perfectly choreographed groove to it around the workplace.

I remember being so sad because my grandparents cable carried it, but ours didn't. We didn't get MTV until I was in Jr.High. We did have TBS "Night Tracks" though. And did I set our VCR to record all hours of it, since it was on past my bedtime - yes I did. Anyways, yes, videos used to have a storyline. I know some still do, but the great videos I remember really tried to play out the song as a story. Some of the videos now are just lost on me. Dancing, fans blowing and bad lip synching. off to take out my dentures, yell at those kids on the lawn, and go to bed

Night Tracks!!!!!! My dad has tapes of this from 1986/87 and we've been watching them a lot lately. Truly bizarre. They played a "video" of Huey Lewis & the News singing the national anthem at an A's game. It had credits and everything.

I just saw the video for "The Darkest One" by the Tragically Hip on youtube, and I had forgotten how random it is. Trailer Park Boys! Cats! Don Cherry! Fried chicken! The Hip have a thing for cats. Was it the "Poets" video where he's just wandering around the house full of cats?
