That's awesome! I saw it with JCM and it seriously was one of the best things I have ever witnessed on stage. Ahem--right, we're in the '90s music thread. Well... it DID come out in the '90s, right?

Wait, do people really dislike Live? I grew up around Central PA, so Live was the local favorite and I've always really loved them, well, at lea st up until the CD with "The Dolphins Cry..." I probably really got into them in high school, around '98..so far after they kind of hit the scene. Im actually sitting here wearing the Throwing Copper Tour tee, I know, Im a geek..
I'm just curious if its just local blindness to a bigger picture, or if I was just too young in the 90s to really understand...or if Live's music just generally sucked...
On a side note, since were talking about 90s music, I have to add my absolute favorite of all time: Better Than Ezra. I dont think they were really well know, but I love every single one of their CDs, they put on one of the best concerts ( I have seen them 6 times) and are just some of the most gracious guys youd ever meet. So if anyone is looking for some good alt rock they may have missed....Im sorry if i seem so fangirly, but I do love me some good 90s music...

I always thought that Live was terrible. To me they seemed like a 99 cent bin version mix of U2 and Pearl Jam but without the sincerity.

I was in college in the early '90s and disliked Live except for I Alone, or whatever it was called. I knew about Better Than Ezra in '92/93, because I was going to university in New Orleans and they played a lot of local shows in town, since they were from Louisiana. I didn't go see them, but I saw the posters around town. The name stuck out because I had a good friend named Ezra and we joked that nothing was better than Ezra. King of New Orleans is the only song of theirs that I can remember off the top of my head nowadays and I didn't really like that one all that much.

I should look them up on Youtube. In a total moment of deja vu last week, I was in a TJ Maxx and heard the Gin Blossoms. It was like college all over again! Is anyone else familiar with Drivin' 'n 'Cryin' and The Connells? Or is this just another example of regional college bands?

I know OF The Connells, because an ex-manager at my ex-part time job told me about them, so I downloaded "Slackjawed," which I SORT of remembered. Good tune.

Me! I liked Drivin' 'n' Cryin' so much that I reviewed their first album (well, cassette in my case) for my my high school newspaper. I loved "Fly Me Courageous". I heard them either on the local college station (NYC suburbs) or on Z-Rock this metal/ hard rock station that broadcast on AM for some reason, I wanna say 1330 AM maybe? I think they also had a bit of coverage in Hit Parader or whatever I was reading at the time, even though they were more alternative.
The Connells also sound familiar, but I can't say that I know any of their work.

Ugh, one of my HS boyfriends loooved Live. Thanks for those memories!
However, this thread made me remember by fifteen year old love for Frente and I listened to them this afternoon. Still some very pretty pop. I was equally obsessed with Love Spit Love and the Gigolo Ants.

I still listen to Drivin'N'Cryin! I saw them in New Orleans for the Fly Me Courageous tour when I was in college. That was a great album and still sounds good. Thanks to Owen, my boyfriend at the time, for turning me on to them!
The Connells were from North Carolina, where I lived for my last couple of years of high school in the late '80s, so I found out about them fairly early on. Unfortunately, I've only got one album, Boylan Heights, and it's on vinyl and I don't have a record player now. They were fantastic. Their big radio hit was '74/'75, which was on one of their later albums.

I saw Drivin'N'Cryin twice on the Fly Me Courageous tour, once at my college and once at a local club in Memphis. "Let's Go Dancing" is still my favorite. I saw the Connells a couple of times as well at a college sponsored event. Both of the groups are on my Amazon wish list now!
