Jagged Little Pill, man. Jagged Little Pill. I still listen to it and love it. Alanis has a life time pass from me. Cause it was such a phenomenon perfect debut record, it is hard to tell if the stuff she has done since is dissapointing in comparison or just dissapointing full stop. Or whether, if Jagged Little Pill never happened, her latter stuff would be more appreciated.
And damn, great observation about chicks no longer having the naked fellas dancing around in the back.
Also, what is jack/jill swing?

Yes! I loved Sublime! Does anyone remember the Presidents of the United States of America? For a long time, you could find me in my room doing math homework and rocking out to "Lump" and "Peaches".
I also enjoyed the dance/techno music of the 90s. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" were among my favorite remixes, and I loved "Jellyhead" by a group called Crush. And of course, how could I forget Real Mccoy? Their music was so the soundtrack to me and my friends making up dances in my living room and then performing them for our families.

Know what else I miss from the 90's? Salt n Pepa videos. What happened to the days when female artists had naked males parading around in their videos instead of parading around naked themselves? Jessica, Britney, Lindsay, etc....watch and learn. Word. Also, even though Salt and Pepa wore sexy clothes and flaunted their sexuality in their videos, they were clearly in charge. When they did it, it was empowering. When the Britneys and Jessicas do it, it's clearly exploitative since they don't own their sexuality. It gets dictated to them by their producers and creep stage parents. What the hell happened to strong women in videos? Christina comes close, since she owns her Dirrty-ness, but that's for another thread.

It's predictable but I listened to alot of grunge in the early 90s. I was in College and listening to Subpop before it hit. I still love Dirt by Alice In Chains. The opening of "Them Bones" is still like goddamnit. Also, I get nostalgic for that ethereal stuff that came out in the late 80s and early 90s, like Lush, the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine.
On the other hand, I do like Hanson. I think they got unfairly lumped together with all the other vacuous teen acts. When people mock them, all I can think is, "What were you doing at 16?"

Portrait's "All That Matters" album was the one for me.
I had "Intro" by "Intro" but for some reason never gotten into it.
I had Guy records and Bobby Brown's second record with the "one More Night" jam on it.
I was listening to British neo-soul. That last Loose Ends album with "Hold Tight" and "Love Controversy".
And I had Groove Theory! Still listen to it.
Oh and who could forget Soul II Soul dominating the whole decade with about 5 or 6 album releases. But one Caron Wheeler wasn't featuring so much I was over it.
Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and the whole Chronic. Then the West Coast flavor from them.
And my girls Envogue! I can't say enough about them. I was always playing them and watching out for their latest video. Then the fly by nighters.
SWV and the fly by night girl bands like Jade. Total rocked. Wondered but they didn't go further.
I was still listening to Anita Baker, Luther Vandross and Keith Sweat then too but that's music I associate with 80s
Oh and lets no forget Mary J Blige, R.Kelly, Jodeci, Silk. Then Junior Mafia and Biggy.
And Buta seemed to be on top of his game for a minute in the late 90s with Exstiction Level Event.

Jagged Little Pill, man. Jagged Little Pill. I still listen to it and love it. Alanis has a life time pass from me. Cause it was such a phenomenon perfect debut record...[snip... Unless you're Canadian, in which case, you knew her first as that kid from "You Can't Do That on Television", who was then unleashed in 1990 as (and I kid you not) Canada's version of Paula Abdul, bopping around, in very big hair, to peppy, synth-and-drum-machine-heavy pop/dance music. That first album ("Alanis") went platinum in Canada, but remained unknown in the US. I warmed up to her eventually, but I was deeply sceptical in 1995/96, having seen the previous incarnation. I assumed that she was a typical corporate musical commodity, positioned by some suit or other to ride the late 1980s/early 1990s Debbie Gibson train and then, when riot grrls began to hit the mainstream, sure enough - there she was, conveniently repackaged as the Angry Young Woman With Indie Cred. Eventually, the sheer catchiness of Jagged Little Pill got to me, and became a guilty pleasure, but I still sometimes wonder if I was duped after all.

I remember seeing the video for "You Oughta Know" on MTV and squinting at it, thinking that girl looked really damned familiar until it dawned on me. Since I grew up near Ottawa, dance-pop Alanis was pretty much seared into my psyche whether I liked it or not.

"What's up" by 4 Non Blondes That song by The New Radicals where they're all dancing around at some shopping center. Every song in Jagged Little Pill Meat Loaf and his "I will do anything for love...but I won't do that" Nirvana The Cardigans!(Love me love me say that you love me!) "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" to this day I don't know who sings this song. "That's the way love goes" by Janet Jackson "Informer", I loooved this one. "Where do you go?" by No Mercy Mr. Vain by Culture something.. What is Love? Redneck and that disgusting video with all the rats. UB40 California by Tupac ...and many others. Now I feel sad.
