I was a junior in high school when grunge hit, and I really went for it. I loved Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, etc. I wore out my CD of Pearl Jam's "Ten." I listened to that thing over and over, day in and day out. I listened to it again a few months ago, and it sounded really dated to me. Other stuff: The Lemonheads? Jellyfish? 10,000 Maniacs? Sonic Youth? Dinosaur Jr? The Pixies? Juliana Hatfield? Soul Asylum? Jesus Jones? EMF? LL Cool J? Luka Bloom? Right Said Fred? I love 90s music. It was such a refreshing time in music. We need another of those.

I ran across their CD in my collection, today.
Natalie Merchant should never have left the band.

Whenever I hear that song or see the video I'm reminded of what Denis Leary said about them in an MTV special: "They look like the Bangles without makeup."

Totally agree about the significance of Jagged Little Pill...probably one of the two most important albums of the 90s along with Nirvana's Nevermind.
The early-mid 90s were my high school years, so they were defined by music we could cruise to - Green Dayand The Offspring were the big ones.
I was also obsessed with The Crow soundtrack. Stone Temple Pilots, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails...wow I have to go dig that out.

I am STILL obsessed with The Crow soundtrack. My best friend and I still listen to it all the time. I also find that it's the best CD to listen to when I want to go to sleep and I'm having a hard time. Weird?

I started college in 1994, and that's when alternative (at least here in the StL) really exploded with the radio station The Point playing GREAT music all the time, and I was that station's bitch for about two years straight, 'til I transferred and went to college out of town. Anyway, I recently tuned in this weekend, and it seems like they're returning from a more thrashy "modern rock" (schlock) format and playing "everything alternative." I listened to it last night and it felt like 1995 all over again as I fell asleep listening to "Zombie" by the Cranberries. Awwww good times.
By the way, does anyone know if Salt-n-Pepa has a greatest hits collection? I'd buy that...I can't seem to find one on Amazon.

Oh, the 90s.
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Reel Big Fish Veruca Salt Belly Fastball ("The Way" is one of my favorite '90s songs)
Plus two of the kookiest songs of the 90s came from Canadian groups: "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" by Crash Test Dummies and "One Week" by "Bare Naked Ladies."

In the 90s, I was more into the grunge/alternative thing:
Letters to Cleo's "Here and Now" is one of my favorite one-hit wonders. To jog your memory, she says the lyrics really fast (like Six on Blossom fast).
Hole - Courtney Love was crazy then, but she didn't squander her talent entirely. "Doll Parts" is my high school anthem.
The Economium tribute album for Led Zeppelin - The Stone Temple Pilots version of "Dancing Days" and Sheryl Crow's "D'yer Maker" bring back the memories.
Sheryl Crow - Tuesday Night Music Club is one of my favorite albums from the era. I like Crow much better when she sang story songs.
