Do you remember Letter to Cleo's other minor hit? "Awake"? "You're awake and I'm asleep and we are so complete, that when you're asleep and I'm awake yeah, everything is so great..." It was very big on Alternative Nation and I have the video on tape. Cute.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Letter to Cleo's song from the soundtrack of "10 Things I Hate About You" which was the remake of Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me." I play it all the time on my iPod.

Is it good?
So many random hits from random bands when I first started college....
"21st Century Digital Boy"--Bad Religion "Love Spreads"--Stone Roses "Sister"--The Nixons "Cumbersome"--Seven Mary Three "In the Meantime"--.....what is that band's name? SPACEHOG

All my teen years were in the 90s, and reading this thread makes me incredibly nostalgic. So much word to practically every single post.
OMC and Jimmy Ray, isn't it?
That would be Crash Test Dummies.
For me, the early years were all about Roxette, Guns 'n Roses, Bryan Adams, Ace of Base, Take That, and East 17.
Later on it was Nirvana, Garbage, Pearl Jam, Prodigy, Skunk Anansie, Cardigans, Counting Crows, Hootie & The Blowfish, Buffalo Tom, Alanis, Smashing Pumpkins, Third Eye Blind. I have such fond memories from around 1996 when I finally found "my" music, especially due to Napster and the fact that American music became so easily accessible.
There's no reason to deny that Spice Girls ruled the late 90s. And let's not forget the British pop/rock dudes: Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Suede. Good times!

I was a junior in high school when grunge hit, and I really went for it. I loved Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, etc. I wore out my CD of Pearl Jam's "Ten." I listened to that thing over and over, day in and day out. I listened to it again a few months ago, and it sounded really dated to me. Other stuff: The Lemonheads? Jellyfish? 10,000 Maniacs? Sonic Youth? Dinosaur Jr? The Pixies? Juliana Hatfield? Soul Asylum? Jesus Jones? EMF? LL Cool J? Luka Bloom? Right Said Fred? I love 90s music. It was such a refreshing time in music. We need another of those. I still have "Ten" in regular rotation. I actually think it sounds pretty timeless (same thing with "Jagged Little Pill"). Sleepy, your list makes me want to dig out my old flannel shirts and start my own zine. God, I miss the 90s.

Doesn't it, though? I had my uniform of flannels and Docs. That was a really fun time for me. [/nostalgia]

I kind of think I'd do flannel/baby doll dresses/docs again if it came back. I think. That's the same thing I said about leggings though, and I'm not touching that w/ a ten foot pole.

Someone else who knows this song! I absolutely bawled like a baby the first time I ever heard this song - the lyrics are so lovely! And my brother was stationed ( for work, not military) in Beirut at the time, so it just really hit home. Here's a quote from an article I found about the writing of the song: I can't even get near this thread - I'd be on it all day just posting and posting and posting. Some of my happiest memories were in the '90s, and so many songs were a part of that. A good sampling for me? The entire soundtrack to the movies Singles and Clueless.

I know, I know...my brother moved halfway across the country and I couldn't listen to it anymore. But he's back as of this week so maybe I can again. Not to mention the soundtrack to Reality Bites! Ooooh I just thought of this CD I have called "Modern Rock." I bought it in '96. It has "We're the Same" by Matthew Sweet, "Walk This World" by Heather Nova and "Molly (16 Candles)" by Sponge, the latter of which is still one of my favorite driving songs. "Novacaine for the Soul" and "Last Stop, This Town" by The Eels!!

Ah, Suede. Introduced to me by my first real bf. I love them anyway, Brett Anderson's incredibly strident voice included. In fact, I love them so much that I got my hair cut like his a while ago. "Animal Nitrate" is a great song, but "My Insatiable One" is really the clincher for me. And apparently the latter song is one of Morrissey's favorites...he'd listen to it before going onstage to get pumped up!
I have to admit that in the 1990s, while I was in middle and high school, I was pretty much a slave to show tunes. But I did start to retroactively like a lot of the 90s alternative once I entered college. I'm always five years behind the curve!
You know what song I love that I hadn't heard in ages? "Eurotrash Girl" by Cracker. Fronted by none other than Camper VanBeethoven himself! Oh, and I also really love "Banditos" by The Refreshments. I got a kick when I looked it up and realized it was by the same guys who did the King of the Hill Theme!
