I have a deep, mostly unspoken, desire to have Chicago for my first dance. "Just You 'N Me" is so cheesy and... perfectly wedding-ish. My parents had Bread in their wedding (you guessed it, "If"), so it would almost be like carrying on a family tradition.
In my more serious moments, I've considered "Maybe I'm Amazed," "I Will," and "Something" </Beatles freak>. The Divine Comedy's "Perfect Lovesong" would be, well, perfect if it weren't for the line about making love. That's not going to be played with parents and grandparents around. "This Will Be Our Year" by the Zombies is another sentimental favorite, and on the plus side, it's only 2 minutes long. That's about the longest I'd want to be in that spotlight.

IF I ever get married (I'd like to hope so), I'd love to do either "Stardust"-the Glenn Miller version, or Johnny Mathis's "Chances Are". (For the first dance) I love love love old fashioned music like that.
For the processional/recessional, I love Tchaikovsky's march from Sleeping Beauty. I love Canon in D, but sadly, that's so overdone.
ETA: Oooh, "My Girl" sounds perfect for a father/daughter dance!

My friend and her husband danced to Adam Sandler's, "I Wanna Grow Old with You," from The Wedding Singer. It was hysterically sweet. That is so cute! I love that song, it's just so sweet, especially coming from Adam Sandler I really like the song "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton for the first dance (at my hypothetical wedding). I know it's kind of a sarcastic start at the song and it's not as though Clapton and Boyd had a perfect relationship, but I just really love it.

I think we're going with "You're My First, Last, Everything" by Barry White. We have a twelve piece funk band playing our wedding, so they'll knock it out of the park, and I fracking LOVE that song. And the song makes me cry when I think of my fiancé... aaawwww....

A twelve piece funk band? The best Barry White song ever? You rule, eataknobatnight. I generally dislike wedding receptions, and I want to attend yours. ETA, pssst, Barrie..."The Search is Over" is by Survivor not Foreigner. Unless of course they both have a song with that name. I could be wrong though - here's the song I'm thinking of, and I love it in all its cheesy glory.

Ahh, wedding songs. I need to hurry up and get married before people steal all the good songs! Now, if only to find a boyfriend first I'm sure I've posted this stuff before, but it's wedding season. I'm getting verklempt. For my processional, I'm aiming for Rilo Kiley's I Never, and my recessional is going to be either David Bowie's Modern Love , Donovan's Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness) , or Electric Sixx's Danger! High Voltage! For my first dance with my hypothetical husband, I'd like Katie Melua's version of Just Like Heaven, or Ween's (yes, Ween) Stay Forever. It has the sweetest lyrics: In the morning sun, I couldn't tell you I couldn't tell you so many things About how much I really love you About how much you really mean
So far away, but it's so easy to see you When I'm away, I want to put my arms around you
And I want to know, do you feel the same way? 'Cause if you do, I wanna stay forever And I want to know, do you feel the same way? 'Cause if you do, I wanna stay forever With you
So many colors that surround you Some so bright, I can hardly see A light reflects on all the things that make you real Things that make you truly free
So far away, but it's so easy to see you When I'm away, I want to put my arms around you
And I want to know, do you feel the same way? 'Cause if you do, I wanna stay forever And I want to know, do you feel the same way? 'Cause if you do, I wanna stay forever With youAnd for my dance with my dad, I'd like Aimee Mann & Michael Penn's cover of Two Of Us. That's such a sweet song.

My processional (wedding in September) is going to be done by a bagpiper. But the first dance? At Last by Etta James. It describes us perfectly - both over 50, getting married for the first time. Neither of us ever expected this to happen.
At last my love has come along my lonely days over and life is like a song
Ooh, yeah, yeah At last the skies above are blue My heart was wrapped up in clover the night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to A dream that I can call my own I found a thrill to press my cheek to A thrill that I have never known Ohh, yeah, yeah
You smile you smile Ooh and then the spell was cast And here we are in heaven for you are mine at last

Logistics-wise, how do you choose ceremony music? We only have two people in our wedding party, so I need something really short for my Maid of Honor to walk down the aisle to, and then I need something relatively short for myself as well, since I'm just crossing a lawn, not entering a cathedral.
