"Brahm's Lullaby" was ruined for me when I saw the "school for the blind burns down and kills Mary's baby and Mrs. Garvey" episode of Little House On The Praire. Now whenever I hear that song, all I can think about is an unresponsive Mary humming it. Late to the party, but... MY BABY! MY BABY! MY BABY! ARRGHH! MY BABY! *sniffle* Preach it!

So when I was little, I used to LOVE "Singing in the Rain". Love it. And I sang it every time i played in the rain.
Then I made the mistake of watching "A Clockwork Orange." If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. And now I can't listen to that song with happy images in my head ever again.
Damn you, Stanley Kubrick. Damn youuuu.

I believe it was OB tampons who used this (disco-y) song a few years ago in one of their commercials. It went something like, "work it baby, work it all night". I never liked the song but I never paid it any attention until the tampon ads. Several of my local radio stations LOVE the damn song and still play it hourly. As soon as I hear it begin, visions of the girl with the afro doing aerobics dance through my head. Then I scream until my ears bleed.

There are so many "ruined" songs, taken in bits and pieces by rappers or someone else.
How about P. Daddy or Diddy or whatever incorporating the Led Zeppelin song so long ago? UGGGh, surely a sign of the apocalypse.!!
He took Kashmir and made it some silly rapper's boast, and they LET HIM!!! ugggh...Sorry, Diddy may be a good businessman, and all, but he is not a "secret elder of a gentle race".

I felt the same until the movie "Grosse Pointe Blank" and my unholy love of all things John Cusack undid that, thank you very much.

I still tense up at the begining, until I hear David Bowie start to sing--just in case somehow, it's turned into that awful Vanilla Ice POS. I loved the song "Halleluia" by Leonard Cohen and the subsequint cover by Jeff Buckley--but now it's so overplayed in films/tributes/etc. that I hate it. Just a little bit.

So much as hearing mention of "Singing in the Rain" now completely disturbs me. Gonna go hug my puppy now.

winkie- I agree with you. In fact, when I read your post, I immediately thought of Will Smith.
