Diana's hair was just a feathered short bob (curled under a bit) parted on the side.
It's what Donald Trump tries to have on his head.
ETA: I think the coming KStew movie is also feeding the interest.

I…kinda like the “Early Diana” haircut. I’m not looking to rock it myself (I can’t), but if you are young and gorgeous and can wear a retro look semi-ironically, I can dig it.
Side note - my mom made me get the Dorothy Hamill haircut when I was a kid, waaaaay after it was actually popular in the 70s. It was somewhat traumatic, so you’d think I’d hate this, but I don’t. In fact, even though I think most of the stuff from the early 80s is butt-ugly (hair, fashion, cars, home decor, etc), I always found Diana’s early look really pretty, despite being very much of its era.

Same. I'd gotten a perm that burned my hair so my mom took me to get it chopped off. For a year everyone thought I was a boy.

I love a good bob (I wear one myself, albeit curly), but that Diana take just looks stupid, as did her inspiration’s hair back in the day I always hated Diana's hair, especially in the 80s. It's improved a little bit in the 90s. I don't see it making a widespread comeback. But then JLo's daughter is walking around in full nursing home patient cosplay and everybody seems to think it's awesome so what do I know.

Gen Z needs to leave the 80s alone. They have the nerve to tell Millenials and Gen X that we can’t dress…we lived this so you all wouldn’t have to!
I wish everyone would let Diana rest.

I had the Dorothy Hamill haircut and it looked awful. I was in no way going to emulate Diana's stupid hair. Even in the 80s when I had feathered hair, I hated her hair.
She's gorgeous, but she's always had awful hair.

Am I the only one who finds this gross/ pathetic/ creepy/ desperate and just all around icky? She's done a few interviews about how intensively she prepared for the role, etc and it just feels gross to me.

It is gross and very exploitative. I wish Laurence Olivier were around to tell Kristen, “why don’t you just try ACTING.” This “spirit” bunk is just to justify the movie and sell it to the public.

It’s gross. We’re not talking about some historical figure from the 1800’s, we’re talking about someone whose children are still alive and are pretty young. I cannot imagine how William and Harry must feel about these kinds of things. I hope they’re able to shield themselves a bit from this but it has to be hard, and even harder when your kids might see a billboard or tv commercial about it.
