I guess I remain the only person on this board who... a) doesn't think his voice is bad at all b) doesn't even give a shit as long as he keeps playing great football. Oh well!!! I support Liverpool F.C., so I care nothing about his football skills until he plays for England, when I briefly become a fan.

Meh, there are plenty of great soccer (sorry, football) players but there are very few who are as entertaining off-field as dear Becks (Maradona excepted). Now, I know he's not the brightest lad in the world but did he really talk about what he was "teached" at school? Is it really mean that I find poor grammar endlessly amusing? It reminds me of the time that he sent that oh-so-sexy text to Esther Canadas:
Hee!

I can't help but cringe because he was pulled out of school when he was 13 and immediately signed for Manchester United. Plus footballers aren't known for their intellect. I can't help but feel bad that he can't help his kid with his homework and would just rather read to him instead. I know he could easily go back to school (I would totally advise he do that in the near future...maybe when his football career is over) but still...

Oh, when you put it that way I do feel mean ... although I suspect that high school education or not Becks would still be a little challenged. But yes, pulling a kid out of school to play football 24/7 is going to fuck up their education. I guess he's just lucky that he's one of the few that actually made it to the top and so being semi-literate might seem like a decent trade-off for earning a million pounds a week to play the sport you love. Did anyone see that documentary Hoop Dreams about kids given high-school basketball scholarships? It was heartbreaking to see these disadvantaged kids put everything into their sport and one injury and - poof - back to their old lives they're sent.

Why do you think that?

Because he's never displayed any interest in any issue or person of substance. He might not be formally educated but that doesn't preclude having a wider interest in the world around him. No, instead he chooses to spend his time shopping and preening or hanging out with other famewhores (Liz Hurley, Elton John, Rebecca Loos). When he tours places he doesn't go sight-seeing or visit places of cultural significance, he checks out what Gucci stocks in different nations. And I don't put that vapidity down to Victoria - I think it's a trait they share and part of what drew them together.

Um...he met Nelson Mandela?
He and Robbie Williams supported Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS. He's a UNICEF Ambassador. And he opened up football academies for underpriveleged children.
Oh I give up. LOL.
I don't know...

Only on the pitch. Then he's back to wearing daft clothing, diamond bling and stepping out of his Benz. I repeat: bland, nothing Barbie doll. Maybe that's attractive to some women...but I like men who are are intelligent and have personality. There's nothing wrong with a stupid yet good-looking guy, even, if he has something extra, like a good sense of humor for example. But Beckham has none of those, he's just...blank. Plus he's hardly that good-looking. He's buff because he's a professional athlete, but his face is decidedly average. It's just been plucked, bleached and tanned and held up as a non-threatening ideal long enough that people believe it's good looking.
His PR does exceed his athletic skills, though, so I guess he's ahead on that score. If he keeps spending money like it's coming out of the faucet, though, I fully expect we'll be reading about a future bankrupcy. He's not going to be a player forever, and with the cheating scandals the bloom is already off the "pretty boy mums love" image, which is going to effect future endorsements when retired. Plus his wife has had no means of income for years now aside from the endorsements she's able to get with him. And neither of them are smart, sensible savers or investors.

I could be wrong, but I believe that even if you get signed by a club you still will have to go to school. I don't believe the players concentrate on school work either way, but still.
No way. Unless he invests all his money into Bolivian Marching Powder like Maradona, he's set for life. His endorsements deals will never run dry. Cheating or not, he's already too popular - especially in Asia.

Oh I'm willing to bet they have people managing their money.
Exactly. He's worshipped there.
I think he has a decent sense of humor. Apparently he went on some show a couple of years ago and inhaled helium to make fun of his high pitched voice. And then there was him and Victoria going on the Ali G show and him going on the Ant and Dec show a couple of times.
