Was anyone else a religious "Friday Night Videos" viewer? Oh, the slumber parties...! The Solid Gold year-end countdown shows were awesome too. Solid Gold was like every awful thing about the 80s encapsulated into a weekly hour of TV.

How about when MTV actually showed videos all day?!
I never watched "Friday Night Videos" because we had MTV. But I do remember watching Casey Kasem every Saturday morning.

I grew up without MTV so we had to get our videos how we could (by walking 3 miles each way uphill in the snow). But whenever we were on vacation my brother and I would watch MTV like CRAZY. It was like we had to make up for all the time we spent without it in just a few days.

I used to love MTV. Remember "The Cutting Edge?" Ooooh alternative!
Martha Quinn rocked. I loved Nina, too. She struck me as a wild child. I hated Downtown Julie Brown, though; so annoying.
Does MTV even play music videos anymore?

My parents locked the MTV off the cable, although the process involved an actual key. Which was taped to the cable box. The first video I remember seeing was "Safety Dance" and even then, y little eight year old brain was all "WTF??"

A friend of mine always proclaims Safety Dance as the best use of a dwarf in a video, ever.

I remember when "Thriller" was THE video to watch. You would wait for it to come on because it was so good and unlike any other video. I remember having to go out to do errands with my Mom, but telling her we had to wait because the VJ had just sid the video was going to be shown again.
I used to love MTV. Once Real World happened, it was all over for the music video on that channel. Lame.

I remember back in the 80s when the had the world premiere of a video and then showed it on the hour for the first day. That used to be so exciting to my little tween/ teen heart. I've always thought they should have created an "MTV Shows" network and kept "MTV" video/ music show based. I flipped past a video the other day and I literally checked to see if it was actually MTV. It's funny to think back about how cheesy some of the videos of serious musicians were in the early 80s, but on the other hand, there were some that were really like little movies and really supplemented the experience of the song well. For me it's hard to think about 80s music without thinking about MTV in its heyday.
