I have a question and I didn't know where to ask it, so I started this thread.

Anyways, why do royal wedding dresses look so similar? Are there regulations regarding what a royal bride can wear? Do they have to have sleeves? Anyone know?

I imagine there's some sort of unwritten "dress code". They simply must exude pomposity, you know. And, the long, elaborate trains might necessitate some sort of special underpinnings to support the weight.

I also think that there's supposed to be an air of purity and virginity and girliness surrounding the bride. You know, the whole "my prince has come, now my life can begin!" crapola.

IIRC, the Queen Mum's dress was pretty and lacy and not an expolsion of poofiness. Granted, her wedding took place 80-some years ago and wasn't televised, but I do remember it being quite pretty. Ah: here it is.

Most royal weddings take place in cathedrals. They probably don't allow short sleeves let alone strapless gowns.

Do you mean Maximilian and Angela of Liechtenstein? Very attractive couple. She's older than him by 11 years, which (to me) makes their pairing extra cool.

I think your average royal bride needs to be covered- displaying cleavage while getting married is kind of risky. Does anyone remember that black dress the Princess of Wales wore pre-wedding that had people debating for weeks over whether there was too much cleavage and a possible nipple slip? No one wants that at their wedding, so a firmly anchored bodice with sleeves is the way to go for safety's sake.
