But the Rent-a-Kents don't do offical duties and don't receive a Parliamentary annuity, right? He sells Royal doodads, and they both rent themselves out for public appearences? Isn't the Royal Roster something like; Elizabeth, Philip, Princess Alexandra (Rent a Kent's sister), Charles, Anne, Andrew, Edward and wife? I don't think William has started an official schedule yet, and Harry is in the military. I don't think either of Margaret's kids keep official schedules, and Anne's kids only make apperances when asked by their grandparents or their mother. I'm sure Andrew's daughters will be the same.

I think that's it. The Kents have a grace and favor house, as do some other minor royals, but most are hardly broke. Does anyone truly believe when ER passes on, that it will be the end of the royal family as we know it? I think things will change, and possibly move more toward a Scandinavian approach, which would be all to the good.

I don't know that Charles, who once had his valet hold the specimen jar while he pissed, is going to be the one to slim down the monarchy -- unless you mean he's going to toss his cousins and brothers Andrew and Edward (whom he can't stand).

I think that's exactly what will happen. Didn't Charles suggest stripping "lesser" royals, like Beatrice and Eugenie of their princess titles? He will bloat his oen importance and kick the rest of the family to the curb.

Someone from Buckingham Palace made noises about removing the princess titles, but I don't know that it was Charles. He attacks his brothers all the time in the press, but I think he leaves their children alone.

There was a committee of some sort out of Buckingham Palace in the nineties to slim down those considered royal. I think from now on the monarch and consort, their children, and the heir apparant's children will be royal, along with any hangars on from previous generations (ie, Harry would still be royal after Will ascended the throne). But that's it. However, it doesn't effect anyone born before the committee met, and I don't think they ever finalized the plan.
I do think Edward was part of the committee, because he has asked that his daughter be referred to as Lady Louise and not Princess Louise, and that she not be referred to as HRH. And I thought Edward and Charles were fond of each other?

Charles used to like Edward a lot when they were both younger. Then Edward made a sort of "it was inevitable" remark right when Diana died and Edward's film company was accused of stalking Willow at school. And Charles hates Sophie with a passion, especially after she said he and Cams were really unpopular (he can't handle the truth) in 2001.

Let them keep the titles but release them from any obligation to perform any royal duties. They should be allowed to live as private citizens if they want to. I'm in favor of limiting the HRH title to the children of the sovereign and the children of the heir. But this rule should take effect with William and Harry's offspring, so that Wills's kids will be royal while Harry's will not. Sort of like Princess Margaret's kids, who don't have royal titles.

But didn't Margaret request that her children not be given titles?
