The movie was based on Baumbach’s divorce. I definitely thought Driver’s role was more empathetic (despite the character being openly dickish in some ways) and fleshed out, perhaps because Baumbach never completely understood his wife’s motives/behavior. I think when you openly cheat on someone it's pretty easy to understand their motives and behavior. All I could think while watching was "And just how does Jennifer Jason Leigh feel about all this?", especially since it's coupled with all the "Little Women" hype about how Greta Gerwig is Wonder Woman for directing a film while pregnant. That coupled with my personal belief that Baumbach is an overrated hack who only writes well when he's mining his personal life ("Squid and the Whale" and now this). I think he had too much ego to make the husband real and too much guilt to make the wife real, IMHO.

I saw the film, but I can't remember if the husband's adultery is the catalyst for the divorce. Maybe I am not remembering correctly, he did have an affair, but Nicole's reasons for the break up were more about losing her identity in the marriage and everything being about her brilliant husband. Don't know if he's retconning his own divorce, but it definitely felt like he portrayed the husband's affair as a symptom of a dysfunctional marriage that needed to end. IRL, it's pretty clear Baumbach left JJL for Gerwig.
JJL is a writer and director as well. I would be all for her making her own version of this story as an answer to his, but I'm petty like that, LOL.

IIRC the affair in the film was a symptom and not the catalyst, but it's kind of glossed over, because it's not the story he wants to tell, and despite my Team JJL 4-evah! status I think that's fair; people in a happy marriage don't cheat unless they're in a happy open marriage which wouldn't be cheating anyway. JJL is super private so I would not hold my breath she will answer this film with one of her own, but I'm right there with you that she should Rashomon his hack ass.
Topic? I couch surfed past "Lost in Translation" this weekend and liked her so much in that. I always like when actors hold their own against a big performance and I feel they don't get enough credit for it (see Cruise, Tom for "Rain Man").

ScarJo in custom Atelier Versace at the BAFTAs. Credit where it's due, her body is sick. I do think her makeup artist took the undereye lightening up a bit far.

That make up is egregiously bad! I don't love the dress, but it's...fine.

I really like this, sheer bits and all. It feels like old school Oscar de la Renta.
