If they are willing to do this to her, with all her resources, it sets a terrible precedent. Disney isn't some indie producer, come on. And to invoke the COVID excuse is just ridiculous. This is not a moral issue; a contract is a contract.

I means sure, Disney can argue in court that $50 million is unreasonable and that because of COVID, the movie would not have made as much in the theaters even if they followed a normal release schedule.
But releasing a statement COVID-shaming her and portraying her as a greedy star who has already been paid enough? That sucks.

This is the first sign of what might actually lead to another WGA strike…streaming profits. I know the Black Widow situation isn’t quite cut and dried, but it’s a prelude. Scarlett may be loaded, but that just means she has the power to take a stand. Now, personally, I’m probably never going to the theater again if I can get it on streaming at the same time. But the cast and crew still deserve to be paid my viewing.

ITA about streaming vs theater. We paid $30 to watch at home. It was cheaper and more comfortable. There are probably movies I Will want to see on the big screen but I wasn’t risking covid or paying movie theater prices for Black Widow. I agree. I'm no Scarlett Johansson fan but I hope she sues the fuckers. Streaming is here to stay. People are buying 85 inch smart TV's and awesome stereo systems. People were resisting movie theaters before COVID, COVID just made things change faster.

Agreed. Our family will adopt the hybrid style of sometimes streaming, sometimes going to the theatre from now on. Dune is something we will definitely see in theatre.

Some of the articles make it sound like Disney just straight up ignored her too so — seriously, they’d never do this to any other male Avenger star. It was already kind of insulting to wait this long to have a standalone Black Widow movie considering she’s one of the early additions in the franchise. Also the headlines were so skewed towards making her sound greedy rather than calling it like it is, that Disney breached contract.

I read that Gerard Butler is suing a movie company as well.

Emily Blunt might sue Disney over Jungle Cruise too. Scarlett is now being blamed for starting a domino effect, even though she wasn't the first to sue over this.
