I agree! I'm even wearing a Mexico-themed shirt today. I like Brazil quite a bit, but I really like Mexico. And after Denmark got eliminated, Mexico is the only one of my teams I had picked for the quarterfinals, so I'm also vicariously playing for pride.

I missed the dodgy penalty call in Russia-Spain, so I can't speak to that, but Spain didn't really electrify me this go-around. That said, I get an icky 1914ish feeling just saying Russia v. Croatia. Between Russia-Spain and Croatia-Denmark, yesterday was long and draining and I'm a bit overly soccer'd out.

ETA: Unrelated, I recently met someone who had played on the second tier of a CONCACAF national team, and we had a nice conversation about soccer. Takeaways: he thinks both Cristiano Ronaldo and Suarez are better than Messi, and it feels very weird that England are still around and Germany isn't.

ETA II: Well, shucks. Now I need to find a new team. France? Belgium? Japan?

Belgium is my team and I was on the edge of my seat for the entire second half. Had to shut the door to my office as I had invited a small gaggle of colleagues to watch with me and we couldn't contain ourselves. I would have plotzed if Belgium had been taken out by Japan.

It's been a wild tournament and anything goes.

I hope Brazil flames out spectacularly in the quarters and Belgium goes all the way. Neymar is a punk-ass diver.

ABE Its ridulous many many people who support English clubs during the year turn around at Euros/World cup times actively shout for whoever is playing Eng, I understand it sort of if ROI were in tournament but not when they aren't. It silly and can be a bit petty.

I was as tense and almost as nervous in that shoot out as if Ireland was playing, have had sucess 1990 and failure 2002 in shootouts.

I was delighted for the Eng Goalie, Pickford his save earlier before the corner for the goal was spectacular he deserved to be one of the heroes tonight for that earlier save alone.

Now I'm even going to sound like an overconfident BBC pundit if the beat Sweden then RUS or Croatia....it might be coming home(Three lions, catchy football song from a World Cup past)

I was and still eyeing Belgium to keep going but I'm backing possibly jixing England now!!
